Disappearing into the paper drawer

Hello, crafting friends!

Boy am I glad to see you! I went and had a rummage in my designer paper drawer a good while ago and have only just found my way out!! It all started when I was looking in my snippets box and found a flower I'd cut out of some paper but never used, and then wondered if I could find any snippets of paper that might look good with it, and one thing led to another...

While I was making this card, I was thinking about lovely Kath, who many of you will know as one of the talented design team members at the Allsorts challenge, and who very sadly passed away recently. She loved her papers and often wowed her fans with beautiful paper-pieced creations. Allsorts is going to be hosting a special challenge in Kath's memory tomorrow and everyone is welcome to join in to pay tribute to her. Hope to see you there!

My card is much simpler than Kath's paper-pieced beauties. I simply chose some snippets which I thought would look good with the flower, die cut them with one of Lawn Fawn's stitched Hillside border dies and Heffy Doodles stitched rectangle dies and glued them to a card base. I used a little off cut of the blue paper and cut tiny circles out of it with a punch and used those to decorate the centre of the flower.

All the papers are from Stampin' Up. I've been hoarding waiting for the right moment to use the cloudy paper for many years, and the 'grass' is from the same pack as the snipped-out flower, a freebie in the spring sale-a-bration sale. The stamped sentiment label was found at the bottom of the snippet box.

CHALLENGES
I'm linking up at Allsorts where I've gone for the Anything Goes option; I'm also joining in at Addicted to Stamps and More where the theme is Birthdays;  I'm also hopping over to the Snippets Playground where there's a Ruby's Memory challenge and Miss Di wants to see our cards made with off-cuts and left overs!

AND IN OTHER NEWS
I enjoyed a lovely day out with my youngest son yesterdayy. He had found a botanical gardens to take me to and even pretended to take an interest as I exclaimed at all the beautiful planting ;)

I absolutely adored this shapely sculpture called The Meteor made by sculptor Jon Roberts. It rests on a wooden plinth in the centre of a area enclosed by clipped hedges and planted with ethereal grasses and a variety of white flowers.

Later we had an ice cream in a beautiful woodland area overlooking a lake filled with swans and ducks and geese. "Eva would love it here!" I said foolishly. My son and I looked at each other, and then at the wild fowl splashing about in the water, and laughed and laughed!

Sending hugs,

  3. This is a wonderful mix and match of papers - I have a bunch of those I haven't even used so you've inspired me to dig them out and create something with them too!
