Christmas card using Season of Joy

It's the first day of December so it's all systems go on those Christmas cards! The temperatures have dropped well below freezing here so, for my card today, I've chosen a warming combination of Cherry Cobbler and gold.

Isn't the background gorgeous? I'd love to say that I stayed up all night stamping it with my stamp-a-majig but of course it's one of the beautiful designer papers from the Jolly Holiday range which took seconds to glue to my card front! I've used the poinsettia and sentiment stamps from Season of Joy to embellish it and I think the gold looks fabulous against the paper.

Here's how to make this card:
  • Cut a 9cm square Very Vanilla card blank.
  • Cut a 9cm square piece of designer paper and use glue to attach it to the card front.
  • Cut a strip of Cherry Cobbler card stock 9cm wide and 2.5cm high. Pierce a double border on one short side using the template in the Mat Pack. Stamp the sentiment in versamark ink and heat emboss with gold embossing powder.
  • Mount the Cherry Cobbler strip onto a piece of Very Vanilla card stock 9cm wide and 3cm high and adhere the resulting panel to the card front.
  • Stamp the poinsettia image twice in Cherry Cobbler ink onto a scrap of Very Vanilla card stock. Cut the flowers out with paper snips and layer together with three gold brads. Attach to the card with a dimensional.
Supplies
Stamps: Season of Joy
Ink: Cherry Cobbler, versamark
Card stock: Cherry Cobbler, Very Vanilla
Other: Jolly Holiday designer paper, gold brads, gold embossing powder

The little roads and pavements are like skating rinks around here at the moment and, on the way to school this morning, we kept seeing people slipping and sliding and falling over. I'm afraid to say that my small son was holding his sides laughing by the time we got to the school gate and although I tried to do the parental 'we  don't laugh at people's unfortunate accidents' talk, most of the fallen were small people who seemed to find it hilarious too so I gave up!

If you're struggling to get your Christmas cards made, you might like to join me tomorrow for Three Minute Thursday, my weekly series of fast but fabulous cards.
Hope to see you then,

  7. Hi Vicky, love your poinsettia ... what a lovely idea and so effective. Reading about your son reminded me of my grandson who's just 5. Being told he mustn't throw snowballs at grandma - he duly waited until I was through the gate out of sight in my car, then a volley of snowballs suddenly plopped over the fence landing on my car ... I laughed all the way home and hopefully mum was none the wiser!

  10. I like how the designer paper pulls together the other elements of the card.

I remember one time when I was a kid during the winter and I walked to school on some very icy roads. There was a big hill at one point of the trip and I kept falling and sliding down the hill then got up and tried again. I finally made it to school after almost an hour only to find that school had been cancelled because of the bad roads!
