French Foliage poinsettias

I haven't used French Foliage for a few minutes again and you know how I love this set! A few weeks ago I was wondering whether I'd be able to use this set for Christmas card making and my blogging pal Jen commented that one of the leaves makes great poinsettias... well that information was duly filed away in my head and has been brought out for the Make My Monday challenge this week which is to make a Christmas card using flowers or snowflakes. I spotted this fabulous sketch at CAS-ual Friday and used it for my card - come and see:

I stamped the poinsettias using the leaf stamp, Real Red ink and my stamp-a-majig, then masked them off and stamped the background using the same leaf and Old Olive ink. To give the flowers this velvety texture I coloured over them with the brush end of a Riding Hood Red marker. The veins of the leaves show through, which I like, and you can add bits of darker definition with the thin end of the marker too. I coloured over the background leaves with a Sahara Sand marker and add shadows to the flowers with an Old Olive marker. Gold brads make good flower centres and give the card a bit of a Christmas shine!

The poinsettia panel was mounted onto a Cherry Cobbler card base using dimensionals. TIP: If you draw your red marker along the edges of your panel, you won't be able to see an annoying glimpse of raw white card stock!  The sentiment was added using versamark and I embossed it with gold embossing powder. The mat pack template was used to add the dots.

Supplies needed for this card:
Stamps: French Foliage, Welcome Christmas
Ink: Real Red, Old Olive
Card stock: Cherry Cobbler, Whisper White
Other: Markers, gold brads, stamp-a-majig, versamark pen, gold embossing powder, heat tool, mat pack
I'd be delighted to order any of these supplies for you and I can have them delivered to your address in the UK. I am committed to providing excellent customer service and am always happy to help and advise. Just send me an email or give me a call on 01280 820593.

Some of my readers have noticed that I've changed my profile picture at the weekend. I did it because I thought that the previous one didn't look like me any more... but I am slightly regretting it. Why? Because when I was foolish enough to ask my youngest son what he thought of the new photo he said he thought I looked like Bilbo Baggins after he'd got the ring! AFTER he'd got the ring!!! He noticed that I was a bit taken aback by this. "But I still love you Mummy," he added reassuringly. Please don't blame me if I change the picture sometime soon!

Thank you for dropping in to see me today - I really appreciate your company.
See you tomorrow,

  1. Hello Vicky - this is so clever, I hope you don't mind but I may need to file this away in my head for future reference too ! I love the two reds together and the flowers look 3D ( it's your brilliant colouring technique ! ), I thought they were cut and layered on first inspection !

  6. Gorgeous poinsettia card Vicky.

Your son is a one isn't he? The spooky thing is . . . I just left a comment on another blog friend of mine and mentioned (of all things)
Bilbo Baggins . . . how weird is that? x

  8. Your card is lovely, as usual, and yes, the red parts do look 3D. But, tbh, I come here as much for your son's comments as for the cards. He's a bit of a card himself, isn't he? I had my hair cut short two years ago and when I came home my husband said, "Don't you look like your mother?!" Needless to say, I've been growing it ever since!

  9. Another triumph! Clever you, I love how you think outside the box.
Give your son a few years to realise that women don't want to know what men REALLY think, he's a little young yet!
