I often go for muted colours for male cards but my husband tells me that he likes a pop of bright colour. So this design covers both options - after 17 years of marriage I'm an expert on compromise! The bird has been coloured in shades of brown while the background has been aqua-painted in Pool Party and given a Lucky Limeade frame. I think it gives a modern slant to a traditional image.
The way the bird appears to be peeking out of the frame gives a feeling of dimension to this one layer card and have you noticed that picking out part of the sentiment in Lucky Limeade links it to the image?
Supplies needed for this card:

Well we've had the first snow of the winter! The children were out yesterday with sledges and came home rosy cheeked and shiny-eyed. They are all now at ages when they disappear with their friends so my poor husband didn't get to go sledging. Oh I know, I should have gone with him, but I'll tell you now - I don't do snow and anyway, I was needed for 'drying the soggy clothes' duty! So he was forced to nip out into the garden and make himself a snow buddy!

It's my favourite, Young Vermillion! Love how you coloured this one, Vicky. All three colours go so well together.
ReplyDeleteI think your husbands snow buddy looks great! But you really should have made his day, Vicky, and hopped on the back of his sledge!
Vicky, this is so beautiful. I love the one layer look for this image especially with the bird partly outside the frame. The Lucky Limeade in the sentiment ties in well with the bird's frame.

ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, I love the bird image teamed with the sentiment in this fun font, perfect for a chap.
ReplyDeleteLove the way the bird is peeking out of the frame.
ReplyDeleteYour DH did a good job on the snowman front! We had 4 inches . . . I stayed inside mostly . . . although I WANTED to build a snowman . . . I did throw a snowball at my husband (and he threw one back) . . . THAT'S what happens after 28 years of marriage - be warned!
Lovely work.
ReplyDeleteSuper masculine card. Love it peeking out the frame. Hats off to your Hubby going out to play in the snow anyway!!
ReplyDeletePerfect for both the challenge and a guy, excellent watercolouring as always Vicky.
ReplyDeleteYep that's the trouble with snow..... The soggy coats, gloves trousers etc.... and they look so surprised at how wet and cold they are!!
