One layer Young Vermillion

Good morning! I'm starting the week as usual with a male card and I've taken my inspiration from the One Layer Wednesday challenge, which is being hosted by Jennifer Styles this week. I find one layer cards lend themselves very well to masculine cards and this week's bird theme is also just right for a nature-loving kind of guy! Come and see what I've made:

I often go for muted colours for male cards but my husband tells me that he likes a pop of bright colour. So this design covers both options - after 17 years of marriage I'm an expert on compromise!  The bird has been coloured in shades of brown while the background has been aqua-painted in Pool Party and given a Lucky Limeade frame. I think it gives a modern slant to a traditional image.

The way the bird appears to be peeking out of the frame gives a feeling of dimension to this one layer card and have you noticed that picking out part of the sentiment in Lucky Limeade links it to the image?

Supplies needed for this card:
Stamps: Young Vermillion, Happiest Birthday Wishes (hostess)
Ink: Pool Party, Early Espresso,
Card stock: Naturals Ivory
Other: Markers, corner rounder, aqua painter, stamp-a-majig
I'd be delighted to order any of these supplies for you and can have them delivered to your address in the UK. I am committed to providing excellent customer service and am always happy to help and advise. Just send me an email or give me a call on 01280 820593.

Well we've had the first snow of the winter! The children were out yesterday with sledges and came home rosy cheeked and shiny-eyed. They are all now at ages when they disappear with their friends so my poor husband didn't get to go sledging. Oh I know, I should have gone with him, but I'll tell you now - I don't do snow and anyway, I was needed for 'drying the soggy clothes' duty! So he was forced to nip out into the garden and make himself a snow buddy!

I'd like to welcome my new followers and all my visitors. Thank you for coming to my blog  and for all the comments and emails you leave for me - I love reading them all!

Have a happy Monday!

  1. It's my favourite, Young Vermillion! Love how you coloured this one, Vicky. All three colours go so well together.

I think your husbands snow buddy looks great! But you really should have made his day, Vicky, and hopped on the back of his sledge!

  2. Vicky, this is so beautiful. I love the one layer look for this image especially with the bird partly outside the frame. The Lucky Limeade in the sentiment ties in well with the bird's frame.

  9. Love the way the bird is peeking out of the frame.

Your DH did a good job on the snowman front! We had 4 inches . . . I stayed inside mostly . . . although I WANTED to build a snowman . . . I did throw a snowball at my husband (and he threw one back) . . . THAT'S what happens after 28 years of marriage - be warned!
