The bird in the Apothecary Art bush

I can never resist a bird stamp so when I saw this week's challenge at CAS-ual Fridays, to make a clean and simple project featuring birds, I couldn't wait to get started. Unfortunately my mind went a bit of a blank until I had a bit of a sort out on Sunday evening and found an off-cut piece of brayering... Come and see the result:

I liked the 'Northern Lights' effect of the brayered piece and thought it made a great backdrop for my blackbird. The flowers/foliage image is from one of the stamps in my Apothecary Art set; using a marker to colour it, I stamped once on the card base and then again, upside down on the panel using a stamp-a-majig to line everything up.

The bird has been coloured with watercolour pencils (using my trusty bird book as a reference to check what he'd REALLY look like!) Just look at his beady eye!

The sentiment was stamped onto the card base to get the descenders, then again right on the edge of the brayered panel. When I attached the panel to the card front I carefully lined them up - although it doesn't look as if I did from this photo!

Here's what you'll need to make today's card:
Stamps: Nature Walk, Apothecary Art, For my Family
Ink: Pear Pizzazz, Marina Mist, Not Quite Navy, Basic Black
Card stock: Whisper White, Pool Party
Other: Markers, watercolour pencils, brayer, stamp-a-majig

Yesterday I was talking to my daughter about the Disney film WALL-E. We'd watched it recently while she was out at work. "You really must see it - it's a wonderful film," I told her. "Isn't it really depressing?" she asked. "Not at all!" I said. "It's uplifting!" She looked at me and laughed. "Whenever you say something's uplifting, I know it'll break my heart!" But you have to go through the pain to appreciate the happy ending - don't you?!

I'll have a couple of cards to show you tomorrow - they're using the same colour scheme but are for very different occasions. Hope to see you then,

Hugs,
