Ghostly Horse Frontier

I wasn't intending to make today's card at all - it was something that went wrong which I used for scrap and then got all excited about! So now I've made it into a card I guess it qualifies for Di's Snippet Playground (where there's bound to be a snowball fight today and I'm bringing in a carrot for the snowman's nose!) Come and have a look:

The first horse I stamped onto this watercolour paper wasn't a good impression and the other horses were the result of me using the paper as scrap to stamp off onto. I quite liked the ghostly look of the horses overlapping though, so I coloured bits in with an aquapainter. It ended up looking rather arty I thought so I mounted my masterpiece (!) onto a piece of core'dinations card stock.

I love this stuff to bits! It's like textured card stock but even better - not only does it have a subtle texture to it but you can also emboss and sand it to get all sorts of effects or just sand it on its own as I've done here.

Here's what you'll need to make this card
Stamps: Horse Frontier
Ink: Basic Grey, Early Espresso, Crumb Cake, Bashful Blue, Lucky Limeade
Card stock: Very Vanilla, Watercolour paper, Early Espresso Core'dinations
Other: Stampin' Sanding System, markers, aquapainter

The horses remind me of the holidays we used to have on Dartmoor until the lovely people who owned the cottage we rented sold up and moved closer to their son and his family. There's something rather magical about the horses on the moors; you can be sitting enjoying the view one minute, then turn round and they'll have suddenly appeared.

Sigh... Just  a bit different to the scene around here at the moment:

I took this photo in Buckingham on Monday. I don't think anyone's going to be taking a picnic to that table any time soon!

Have a lovely weekend and I'll see you very soon,

  1. I rather like your 'arty' horse card - isn't it interesting what you can make from a mistake?
Weather !!! You're snowy and cold and we've just had the hottest day on record 46.7C in the city of Sydney with a degree or so hotter out west. We live halfway between the city and what's termed west. Hope the cool change comes soon!

  4. Hello Vicky,
I like your horse-cards very much. And the dark brown pony right in front of your photo, reminds me on my first pony, it's looking exactly the same way! My father bought a little Dartmoor-Pony for me, to learn riding, when I was a young girl. Oh, good old times!

  5. I love it when you can rescue a 'mistake' and can call it a 'happy accident' How topical you are with this equine theme with all this hoo-ha going on about horse meat in burgers!
Co-ordinations is brilliant isn't it, great for tearing too.

  6. You really have gone quite horsey at the moment what with rosettes, horseshoes and ponies in the field! All fab cards and I love your photo of the ponies on Dartmoor. My horses are looking very hungrily over the fence at me as the snow has covered their field so I'd better stop crafting/blogging and pull on my wellies!

  7. Love the effect you've achieved Vicky the colouring is wonderful. Very snowy here but I hope we don't get any more! A friend has lent me a slow cooker so I'm hoping to ditch the "ping" meals and most of the prep appears to be finished so hopefully my kitchen will start taking shape soon:)

  12. I agree that's a pretty arty effect and the sanded co-ordinations is the perfect choice of texture too.
I would have loved a magical pony when I was younger.... I had a make-believe one instead :0)
