Sassy Salutations on a bit of festive... black?!

Hmm. You might feel that black isn't usually associated with the festive season but I hope today's card will change your mind! It was inspired by the 'dark background with a splash of colour (s)' theme over at Less is More this week. Come and see:

I made a panel out of black core'dinations card stock and heat embossed my sentiment in gold. The aperture was cut next, using my quick and handy 2 1/2" circle punch, and leaves (cut with my 2 step bird punch) laid around the edge to make a wreath. The wreath was embellished with gold brads, candy dots and ribbon before I mounted the panel onto a black card base.

Here's that gorgeously festive stitched grosgrain ribbon in Real Red - doesn't it make you want to sing carols?!

And here's the sentiment from Sassy Salutations. I love the way it's picked up the texture of the core'dinations card stock.

Finally an arty-looking shot to show you how dimensional the card is!

Here's what you'll need to make this project
Stamps: Sassy Salutations
Ink: None!
Card stock: Basic Black smooth and core'dinations
Punches: 2 1/2" circle and 2 step bird punches
Other: Versamark, Gold embossing powder, heat tool, Real Red stitched grosgrain ribbon, candy dots,  gold brads (from stash)

My youngest son told me he'd enjoyed his Spanish lesson at school yesterday. They had learned all sorts of useful tips for eating in restaurants in Spain he told me. The tips turned out to be a phrase meaning 'No thanks, I'm saving myself for pudding' and the recommendation that you call all the waitresses 'signorita' regardless of age or marital status in the hope of getting an extra drink! I may have to take this last recommendation up with my son's teacher at parents' evening I think!

See you tomorrow,

  8. I think a black background looks really stylish for Christmas cards, Vicky, the wreath looks great against it. Wouldn't mistletoe or a Christmas tree look nice too?
Good to know your son is learning useful life skills as well as Spanish! xxx
