Spot the hidden bee...

I can't get enough of Stampin' Up's Hardwood background stamp! I'm finding it useful for all sorts of techniques but today I thought I'd give collage stamping a whirl. Come and see:

I had the CASual Fridays Shades of Grey challenge in my mind so out came the Smoky Slate to form a background with the wood image. Collage stamping is all about layering up stamped images and I thought this simple hexagon from Geometrical worked well over the wood.

Crushed Curry seemed like a good way to give those greys a shot in the arm and with the stripe of the washi tape and the hexagon motif there is definitely a suggestion of bees! Perhaps I should have added the one from Springtime Hello?!

I decided that bees were too obvious and instead chose the flower border from You're Lovely, one of the free Sale-a-bration sets. I layered that over the hexagons, adding centres to some of the flowers with a marker and giving some of them a candy dot centre. This sentiment makes me want to jump up and down shouting whoopee! Anyone else? Hmm, okay then, moving swiftly on...

There'll be singing and dancing in the streets of Buckingham today (well perhaps just our street!) as it's my youngest son's birthday! Bees always remind me of him, partly because he started off being very nervous of them and then became very fond of them. We used to go to a tot's music class where each week the teacher would ask: "What's in the bag?" The idea was to bring something out of the bag and the children would sing a song about it. Every week, my tiny son would put his hand up and suggest that there were bees in the bag until one week, no-one was more amazed than he was to find that there were actually little knitted bees in the bag!

And look: this little chap was in his Christmas stocking last year for a bit of fun!

See you tomorrow,
