Hello crafting friends!
I'm back with another card that I made for this week's Less Is More Challenge where I'm *draws self up proudly* Guest Designing for this fortnight! It's the dreaded one layer card this fortnight and the twist is No Sentiment!
While I was thinking about this, my golden retriever pal Eva came up to me to ask me if I could let her out please, and I had an 'aha' moment! No-one communicates without words better than a dog!
I started the card by stamping a bush for my dog to sit behind, using Sheltering Tree by Stampin' Up (retired.) Using my stamping platform, I stamped the leaves in green, cleaned the stamp without removing it, inked up with Versamark, stamped again, then heat embossed with clear embossing powder. I was then able to stamp the twiggy parts of my bush and then wipe the embossing clean.
Next came the dog. I don't have any dog stamps (but I would LOVE some if you have any recommendations!) I do have a Stampin' Up dog punch though and was able to make a stencil out of it.
I sponged distress ink through the stencil, ran a marker around it to make an outline and added features - isn't he cute?! He can see his owner coming and look - she's carrying a BALL!!!
He needed grass to run on and a lovely blue sky, so I masked him off with the punched dog and, using a straight piece of scrap paper for the horizontal, sponged them in.
Finally, I used another Stampin' Up set, From Our House To Yours, to stamp a collar and the hearts, used silver liquid pearls to add a name tag. I rounded the bottom corners of the card too, to add extra interest.
EDITED TO ADD AN AWARD
So proud this card was show-cased at Less is More! And received an Honourable Mention at Just Add Ink!
CHALLENGES
As well as Less is More I'm linking up with Cards 4 Guyz, where the challenge is to Use A Stencil on a masculine card, and Allsorts, where the theme is Men and/or Boys. I'm also joining in with this week's 'Just Add E' challenge at Just Add Ink - my 'E' is embossing.
AND IN OTHER NEWS
Not everyone is losing sleep over the Coronavirus situation:
There may or may not have been a 'chasing some ducks across a river' incident before this photo was taken...!

Hugs,
You can see how much you love and understand your dog in this creation! How wonderful!! ~ Bravo to you to create without a rubber stamp and detail your own lovely pup :) Congrats on being a guest designer and blessings to you on continued good health and creativity ~ Love, Karen
ReplyDeleteYou are lovely Karen - thank you for such a kind comment. Hope you safe and well too.
DeleteOh wow, what a lot of effort you've put into this card, Vicki. Super clever use of the dog punch - I wouldn't even attempt it myself - my skill is not drawing, & that is why I stamp lol. The perfect card for no sentiment!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your Eva! I must do a post on my beautiful Lilli, she passed on 30 Dec 2019 & we miss her so very much.
Lovely to see you over at Just Add Ink so regularly again. x
I'd love to say it took hours but actually it was quite quick and easy! The 'drawing' is just an eye, a nose and a mouth really - very simple. Eva is such a little character and so much part of the family - her needs are considered as much as any of the rest of our needs. I'm so, so sorry you have lost your darling Lilli and I know just how much you must miss her. A post on her would be quite healing for you I think.
DeleteThank you for your wonderful challenges at JAI - they are so helpful at this time. Stay well Patrice! x
A darling card. I too love having a dog and getting outside to walk him.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeanne. Our dogs are a lesson to us all aren't they?!
DeleteWhat a clever one layer card Vicki. Especially love your idea of using a punch to create a stencil! Thanks for joining us at Just Add Ink this week. Kim
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the challenges Kim - keep them coming!
DeleteAww . . .that's a lovely card and simply PERFECT for the challenge.
ReplyDeleteFrankly, I'd be flaked out on the settee like Eva if I'd been busy chasing ducks across a river too! LOL!
Always a pleasure to drop by your blog, and thank you for adding a smile to my face with the Eva photo!
Waving and sending good vibes from a safe distance!

Adorable - and how clever to use the stencil for the image. Thank you for sharing at Cardz 4 Guyz.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jane. Needs must actually - I think I need to go stencil shopping!
DeleteAn adorable image Vicky and I have little doubt those hearts are drifting away on a dream of food, well what else do Labs dream of, other than ducks? Luckily ours are al OK with Ducks, having very hefty Aylesbury's aimlessly wandering as if only they matter they have all accepted it as OK.
ReplyDeleteA perfect masculine card, many thanks for joining in with our 'Men and Boys' theme at Allsorts challenge this week.

I was thinking the hearts would be about her family but sadly, I think you're right about snacks! Eva can be very, very good around ducks due to intensive training sessions, but if she breaks concentration I'm afraid she runs amok! She doesn't even think about harming them, just capers about with wild abandon while they scold her! x
DeleteWhat an adorable puppy and such a cute card too. Our pets are a great comfort with everything going on at the moment. Chantell Just Add Ink
ReplyDeleteYes aren't they just Chantell! Take care.
DeleteWhat a stunner of a card. Your hand detailed dog is divine. Thanks for joining our "Just Add E" challenge. Kelly x
ReplyDeleteThank you Kelly! x
DeleteThis looks like Eva! Leave it to you to improvise perfectly! A lovely scene and congrats on your Guest Designing!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like Eva before her Golden feathers came in - will have to dig out a photo <3 Thanks Bonnie :)
DeleteYou've done it brilliantly! Love the pic of your sleeping dog too.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for joining us at Allsorts challenge.

Aw thanks Lynn! And thanks for the fun challenge - they're keeping a lot of us sane! x
DeleteWhat a super idea to use your punch to make a stencil. It's a wonderful card and the doggy looks so like Eva. I've only got the TH Crazy dogs but they do make fabulous fun cards.
ReplyDeleteLove the photo of Eva xx
Wow, it's gorgeous! xoxo
