Grow your own

Hello crafting friends!

I'm as proud as punch to be guest designing for CASology today alongside the team who are experts at clean and simple card making! Here's the cue card for this fortnight:

My first thought was a pot plant and in fact, I've been a bit obsessed with room set stamp sets recently although I can't lay my hands on any... yet! Anyway, I couldn't find a pot plant stamp in my collection, so I decided to pot up my own!

The pot was made by folding a sticky note in half and snipping out a simple shape. I used this as a stencil, colouring inside it with alcohol markers to give that terracotta feel. To make the plant, I masked off the top of the pot and stamped a leaf from Reverse Confetti's Fall Foliage several times. I coloured this with alcohol markers too.

To finish the card, I grounded the pot plant with negative space by masking off the ground and blending distress ink upwards. The panel was attached to the card base on dimensionals and I added a blocky greeting from Uniko, stamped and trimmed.

I really enjoyed making this simple card. How about you? What does the word plant suggest to you? I can't wait to see what you come up with - and don't forget to link up here.

CHALLENGES
I'm playing along with the Anything Goes challenge at Seize The Birthday and will also link up with the NBUS (Never Before Used Schtuff) Challenge. I bought Fall Foliage after last autumn as it fitted all my criteria for a gorgeous leafy stamp set and it's been sitting there waiting for it's inky moment ever since!

AND IN OTHER NEWS
Making this pot plant reminded me of our little cat Tuppence who used to curl up and go to sleep in various plant pots, prompting us to call her CATcus!

Bless her, she passed away after a series of strokes at the grand old age of 19 but we miss her and talk about her often as she was a great character.

Take care and be safe!

  2. This is gorgeous, Vicky! I love that you created your own pot - I thought it was a stamped image until I read your post.Your blending behind it is lovely too. I am still trying to perfect that technique - I can never quite get it to fade out nicely at the edges...
I love the sassy look on Tuppence's face and I the CATcus nickname is perfect. :) 19 is fabulous innings (although no matter how many years we have them in our lives it never hurts any less when we lose them).

  5. I love how innovative you are, Vicky! No stamp for an image you want? Just make a stencil! Brilliant idea and I have to say, brilliant artistic talent making a stencil that looks just like a terracotta pot, which you then colored perfickly! Even your plant is cleverly stamped using a single leaf image and your negative ground is unique and fabulous! Congratulations on being CASology's Guest Designer and doing an awesome job of inspiring us! Take care and keep safe. And thank you for sharing at NBUS and bringing back images of Catcus! Hugs, Darnell

  11. And well deserved as well Vicky and what a gorgeous make you have created for them, such subtle inking behind the focal image really draws the eye.

Sweet photo of your little lady, but what a great age. We lost Clyde last month, her was 16 and we suspect a stroke as well as other underlying issues. The hardest part was being unable to go out our Son in Law had to take him, wait outside in the car part, the vet took him away and came back out to say nothing they could do. A harsh end for such a lovable boy.
