Hello, crafting friends!
Welcome to another fabulous colour challenge at CAS Colours and Sketches! YoonYoung is our host this month and she has chosen a colour combination that is a favourite of mine :)
Where I live in the heart of England the spring bulbs are blooming, so I was inspired to get out the Spring Daffodils stamp set by Clearly Besotted.
I've been practising watercolouring lately and one thing I've found is that you don't actually have to use the finest (and most expensive!) watercolour paper as long as you're quick and don't use a lot of water! I've made a one layer card out of 300gsm thick card stock and I didn't get any pilling at all and there's no bleed through either.
I stamped the image in Stampin' Up So Saffron ink, masked off the flower heads and the border, and sponged in a ground using grass from Funky Fossil's Scenic Borders stencil. Once the mask was removed, I coloured the flowers and a bit of background before adding the sentiment from Lawn Fawn's Easter Party.
So how about you? What do these colours bring to your mind? As always, the team is here to inspire you - just pop over to the CAS Colours and Sketches site to see their fabulous creations as well as a beauty from this month's special guest PJ :)
CHALLENGES
I'm linking this card up at Allsorts where Helene wants to see a stamped image on our cards; I'm also joining in at Inspire Create where Anything Goes and Happy Little Stampers Watercolour challenge where Anything Goes; and last, but not least, I'm playing along with We Love Chocolate Baroque where the theme is I Love... I love this colour combination, spring flowers and one layer cards!
AND IN OTHER NEWS
Have you ever wondered why flowers never seem to last long when they're in a vase with daffodils? Well take a look at this graphic by Andy Brunning at Compound Interest:
And there we are - everything becomes clear! I will never put a murderous daffodil in a vase with another flower again - except possibly an iris!
This is so pretty Vicky!
ReplyDeleteI knew about Killer Daffs! My Nan told me years ago when I was a teenager - I thought she was fibbing until I read it about 20 years ago somewhere which confirmed it - although I never put daffs in with anything else 'just in case' she might have been telling the truth after all!
A Beautiful card Vicky, I love how you have painted the daffs.
ReplyDeleteHow strange that Supermarkets make Spring bouquets with tulips and daffs. Although they are are sold in bunches on their own too. Murderous daffs? OH! NOooooooooooo. hahaha

A really super creation, gorgeous colour of the Daffs and a great design.
ReplyDeleteDidn't know that but I do now, thanks.

Our daffodils are blooming too and yours are just as beautiful on this card! Beautifully colored, Vicky! I find daffodils so hard to color.
ReplyDeleteYour watercolour CAS creation with the Daffodils is glorious Vicky, a wonderful card to be visiting first thing before the weather has quite decided what it's going to do.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing a crafty 'I love.....' with us at We Love Chocolate Baroque March challenge.
Watercolour card has gone up in leaps and bounds pricewise, for years I have used Fabriano HP along with Bristol Vellum card, went to re-order Fabriano the other day and had to look twice, then go back again and check. It was almost three times the price I paid last time. I even rang the company as I thought it was a misprint, no, it's just Brexit!!

Your watercolour painting is superb. Lovely Easter card.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the killer daff info. Learn something new every day!

Who knew about the dafs??? Not me! Your card is gorgeous. Your water coloring is so wonderful. I really don't think you need any practice... A springy, hopeful scene. I just love it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blooms, Vicky xoxo

I am playing serious catch up here but wanted to say how much I love your cheery daffodils (being Welsh, how could I not?!) Perfectly watercoloured too and I loved the 'fun fact' - I shared it with the children over dinner, who are now referring to these as the murderers of the floral world!!
