Bordering on Romance shaped card

I love joining in with the Make My Monday challenge and never miss it if I can help it. In fact there's no chance of me missing it during May as the lovely ladies have asked me to guest for the month! May's Floral theme continues with a fabulous new challenge this week: Any Flower with Music. It sounds fun doesn't it - why not join in yourself?!

When I saw the challenge, I immediately wondered what would happen if I teamed my Music Notes wheel with the new Bordering on Romance stamp set. Come and see how it turned out:

The shaped card base was made using the largest of my new Labels framelits dies. I used the same die to make a mask out of two post it notes which I put into place before running the wheel across the centre of the card twice. The large flower image was stamped over the top. I didn't want to add a sentiment so I thought a little bakers twine across the top would bring balance to the card. (I can't tell you how hard it was to stop myself from typing 'bring balance to the force' then - my boys have been such Star Wars fans!)

Incidentally I didn't have any bakers twine the right colour so I just dyed a length of white with a couple of drops of re-inker - I'm VERY excited about that so you'll probably be seeing lots of different colours of bakers twine turning up all over my cards! The flower cluster was coloured with markers with a shadow added in Sahara Sand to make it pop.

The card turned out to be one layer and shaped as well so I'll be entering it into the One Layer Wednesday challenge!

Here's what you'll need to make today's card:
Stamps: Bordering on Romance, Music Notes wheel
Ink: River Rock, Always Artichoke
Card stock: Naturals Ivory
Other: Markers, white bakers twine, Pretty in Pink re-inker, Labels framelits, Big Shot, Simply Scored

Lots of countries around the world celebrated mother's day yesterday and I hope everyone had a lovely day. In the UK, the celebration is held on the 4th Sunday in Lent, but every day feels like mother's day in my house! As I was dishing out the porridge yesterday morning, my youngest son held out his hand to indicate I'd given him enough. The serving spoon was already half way to his bowl so I added the spoonful to his portion. He sighed. "All mums have one thing in common," he said. "When you tell them you've got enough they ALWAYS add one more spoonful!"

Have a happy Monday! I'll be back tomorrow with a great way to use one of the Apothecary Art stamps - don't miss it!

  22. Oh, Vicky, it's beautiful!!! LOVE that cluster of flowers atop that amazing sheet music image! This is gorgeous! LOVE the shading--I thought the flowers were popped up at first! Also, I'm a bit daft and am wondering HOW you've used the die to create this shaped card? If you'd drop me a line to tell me how, I'd be very appreciative!!! :)

  31. I love the shaped card and the soft music behind the pretty flowers! The first time I tried to dye ribbon with re-inker, I rinsed it in clear water and rinsed out nearly all the color. Boy did I feel silly!
