Hello crafting friends!
Are there any days more beautiful than a warm, sunny, blue-sky one in autumnal England? Perfect for romping about the countryside with a bunch of waggy pups or, if you are so inclined, (and I'm not!) cycling around the countryside on a bike! Which brings me to today's card - come and see:
This is a quick, simple card for the guys in your life that like cycling but don't like fuss or frills. It started with a background made by blending three colours of Spectrum Noir alcohol markers. I then stamped the bike-rider image from Stampin' Up's Enjoy Life over the top using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
I zoomed in on my bike rider by cropping away part of the image. At the risk of revealing my dark side, I rather enjoyed ruthlessly cutting those wheels down!
The sentiment I wanted to use was a simple 'Happy birthday' from Concorde and 9th's Enjoy it All (quite a theme running here!) but it didn't work with my 1 3/4" square image. My solution was to partially frame the image with some coordinating card stock, so it became the same length as the sentiment but still square. I added some staples for extra interest. They're just ordinary silver staples but I cunningly coloured them black with an alcohol marker before stapling ;)
It was Inkspirational, which currently has 'Crop' as its word prompt, that inspired me to crop my bike image down, so I shall enter this card there. I'm also linking up with The Male Room where the challenge this fortnight is to use embellishments on your male cards.
AND IN OTHER NEWS
My golden retriever, Eva, is in my bad books today. On our morning walk, she found a discarded sandwich in the hedge and wolfed it down before I could get it off her. She was very apologetic afterwards but that isn't the point, as I mentioned to her! She has a bit of a thing about finding food 'in the wild' like that - it reminds me of the thing Enid Blyton's characters always used to say about food tasting so much better outside!
Thanks for coming to see me today. I would love to hear about your family cycling champions or naughty dogs so do share in the comments below!
See you soon,

See you soon,
Great card, Vicky xoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks Em! x
DeleteSuch a perfect card for those guys, Vicky! You were kind with your cropping and missed the body parts, LOL! Love the framing that makes this so interesting!
ReplyDeleteHaha! Are you thinking of the Great Craft Robbery? I HAVE forgiven him I promise!
DeleteGreat CAS card, love your use of staples as embellishments. It's perfect for masculine cards. Thanks so much for playing along at The Male Room craft challenge. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteThanks Monika! The males in my world seem to get very offended about embellishments but staples seem to avoid criticism!
DeleteWhat a wonderful masculine card Vicky and love the colours and the silhouette bike cropped in that way goes perfectly within that super frame. Four years is a long time to be away from your crafting but glad you have recovered from your illness and also recovered your love of cardmaking. I have looked back at your posts since you returned and there are some beauties, and I can see that your stash has been slowly building. I look forward to viewing your progress. I love your gorgeous dog too. x
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks Pat! The thing I love about card making is that it's creative but doesn't take up much time, so you can fit the rest of life nicely around it. Eva is a sweetheart and such a little character! x
DeleteGreat card especially for males. Love your design idea and may try it out with some of my solid looking stamps. Male cards are always difficult for me to make so thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteYou being inspired is the greatest compliment I could have! Thanks Sandie - and have fun!
DeleteVicky your so very talented, I love how you can take a stamp and turn it into an amazing Card. Whilst I don't comment all the time, I so enjoy getting your email of your most resent posts. So happy your crafting again.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Barb. That's such a lovely thing to say x
DeleteThis is such a classy and clever design! Fantastic card! Love the staples too:)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenny! I do love a staple!
DeleteSimply LOVE how you created this card and made the focal point work for the intended sentiment!
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think Eva is bang on-trend . . . doing some wild foraging and recycling wasted food. I give her lots of brownie points! LOL! xxx
Thank you Sarn!
DeleteLol, perhaps that explains her hurt expression when I was remonstrating with her! "But... but, I was ONLY trying to save the planet!"

OHMYSTARS, Vicky! My husband is a cyclist as well as an Elite National bike racing official here in Canada! I'm also an official, though only at the provincial level (Alberta). As you can well imagine: I absolutely LOVE your card! I've been searching for a road bike cycling image for ages, so seeing yours has me giddy! Your cropping is spot on; the palette, striking. Yep...I totally adore this! Thrilled you shared this in the Inkspirational gallery!
ReplyDeleteWe, too, have a puppy who is sometimes naughty, but such a treasure. She's 10 months old (and has irritable bowl issues...poor little girl). I cook for her because that's what works (fingers crossed we'll get her sorted out and have fewer flare-ups). If she eats anything outside her 'restricted' diet, she pays the price (as do I, in cleaning up). Love her to bits and pieces!

I'm so pleased if I've given you a tiny bit of inspiration for your cycling family Carol!
DeleteWhat a lovely dog mom you are to cook for your girl. I have heard time and again that fresh food has been helpful for digestive issues in dogs. Enjoy your little treasure :)
Great CAS and masculine card. Thanks for playing along with us at The Male Room. Looking forward to seeing your creative projects in the future galleries again.
ReplyDeleteStunning CAS card.
