Hello crafting friends!
When making cards, I love being inspired by a sketch. This week, there's a brilliant one at CAS Colours and Sketches where I'm enjoying being Guest Designer for the month :) Here's the sketch:
And here's what I've created. Look at that host of golden daffodils! This beautiful stamp is from Clearly Besotted (and was in their sale last time I looked!) The daffodils were stamped in green ink, coloured with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers and cut out with a shaped stitched label die from The Works.
I used Tumbled Glass and Shabby Shutters distress inks to colour the background using watercolour and sponging techniques. I like the way the sponged edges really emphasise the stitched detail.
To create a background for my label, I coloured a very pale alcohol marker through the Distressed Diamonds stencil by Funky Fossil, then lifted some of the colour out with a blender. Next time, I'll do this on a card panel - I thought it would be pale enough not to show on the inside of the card but you can just see it :/ Oh well, I'll just have to put an insert in the card!
The sketch has the sentiment on the right hand side but I switched it to the left to fit the shape of the daffodils - it's from Simply Said, also by Clearly Besotted. I finished the card by attaching the daffodil label to the card base with dimensionals and sprinkling the background with gems I'd coloured with alcohol markers to coordinate with the flower label.
I hope you've enjoyed this card. There's a gorgeous gallery of cards from the real Design Team at CAS Colours and Sketches, so do check them out, and I hope you'll be inspired to join in :)
CHALLENGES
I'm going to link this card up with the Allsorts Challenge where the theme this week is Say It With Flowers.
AND IN OTHER NEWS
The daffodils have reminded me about an advert from long ago, promoting a lager which apparently refreshed the parts other beers didn't reach. The ad featured the poet Wordsworth, 'wandering lonely as a cloud', coming across 'a host of golden daffodils' and attempting to compose poetry about the experience. Of course, he hadn't had any of the lager so his efforts were abysmal and confined to lines such as 'I walked about a bit on my own' and 'I strolled around without anyone else.'
Thinking about this made me laugh out loud. There were a whole lot of funny commercials back in the 80s - mostly from beer manufacturers. Are there any funny ads now?

Fabulous take on the sketch Vicky, love the stencilling and sprinkling of gems. I would have slapped a rectangle topper on a rectangle of paper lol, I struggle with sketches, so I'll watch and learn. Kevin the Carrot makes me laugh, shame it's just at Christmas :) xxx
ReplyDeleteYour rectangle on top of a rectangle would have been beautiful Lesley! Kevin the carrot makes you laugh???! Well ok, so you just need to watch that all year round! xxx
DeleteI LOVE your card, the daffodils area promise of Spring and as ours are in bud, I'm looking forward to a show like this, a gorgeous card Vicky.
ReplyDeleteFaith x
I love seeing the bulbs in bud too. I think these daffs can be just for you since you are a Welsh lady! x
DeleteThis is BEAUTIFUL! Your coloring is so clean and vibrant...it looks like those daffodils could pop right off the page! Just stunning! Can't wait to play with the sketch myself! And as far as ads go, there are lots here in the states....but my favorite during Christmas is the Scottish ad for for Irn Bru...I love the music but that snarky snowman cracks me up!
ReplyDeleteThank you LeAnne! Can you believe I have never seen the Irn Bru adverts before. They're BRILLIANT! Thank you for sharing - it's made my day :D
DeleteGreat coloring and beautiful daffodils. And the background stamping and jewel you added remind me a spring shower. Nice take on the sketch!
ReplyDeleteThanks YoonYoung - and yes, that's a nice thought about the spring shower :)
DeleteWonderful card! Love the beautiful inking to make a landscape for the daffodils!
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen! Only just got my distress inks and have gone a bit giddy about them!
DeleteOooh, Vicky your gorgeous card makes me long for spring! Love the composition and the colouring is beautiful. I remember those fun ads too!

I know Carol - it can't come fast enough for me. But if it could hold off on the spring showers I'd be grateful - I feel as if I've never dried out all winter! x
DeleteWonderfully Spring-like! Great sketch interpretation too.

Love, love, love these bright daffodils! If this weather keeps up ours will be blooming soon. They're popping up everywhere!
ReplyDeleteOurs are popping up all over the place too but I'm worried they're too early and the frost will blight them :/
DeleteA beautiful Spring creation and the subtle use of stencilling gives such a delicate finish Vicky.
ReplyDeleteLovely to see you at Allsorts challenge, thank you so much for sharing your lovely creation. It was also fit in perfectly at Penny Black and More and Stamping Sensations challenges!
