Let's go and fly a kite

Hello crafting friends!

Also, hello April Showers! Where have you been? We waited for you but in the end Summer had to step in. Anyway, you're here now, that's the main thing. Oh dear, I am now having conversations with the weather, so I think it's time for a little crafting...

I'm using a NBUS stamp set by Paper Smooches called Sunny Side Up which I bought recently although I think it's been around for a very long time. I had to have it because of the clouds - they're so friendly looking aren't they?!

I started by masking off the edges of a card panel and inking in a sky. The kite came next, stamped with Stampin' Up Bermuda Bay ink and coloured with alcohol markers. I drew the string and a tail using the fine end of a marker and added the bows and coloured them.

To make the clouds, I first inked some card stock. I diluted some ink with water on a plate, then mopped it up with a paper towel and dabbed it all over a piece of scrap card stock. Once that was dry, I stamped the clouds onto it and fussy cut them. I LOVE these clouds!

The clouds were arranged on the card and I added a blocky sentiment from Uniko's Simply Said Blocks before attaching the panel to a card base. I WAS going to add the word Hi as a pun on 'high as a kite' but, although it made me shriek with laughter for several minutes, I went with the more sensible Hello as Hi was too small.

EDITED TO ADD AN AWARD
I was delighted that this card won an Honourable Mention at The Rainbow Card Challenge!

CHALLENGES
I'm linking this card up with the monochromatic Totally Tiffany theme at The Rainbow Card Challenge. I'm also sharing at the NBUS Challenge. Sunny Side Up may be new to me but it was released in August 2011, so I'm entering the card into the Retro Rubber Challenge where there's an Anything Goes theme.

AND IN OTHER NEWS
While making today's card, I was reminded about my son playing Bert in Mary Poppins, his final school production before going off to uni. He really does have a certain something about him which draws all eyes, and complete strangers were coming up to me in the street for days afterwards to tell me how well they thought he had performed. One lady told me she thought he'd been a wonderful Bert. "He has such a kind face," she added. What a lovely compliment!

Here's the Disney version for your entertainment. Lovely comic moments (the policeman at 1.05 for example!) but you might need tissues - I certainly did!

How are you doing? What are you up to today?

Hugs,

    1. Thanks Kath! They're not dies though - I feel I should point this out because it took a while to fussy cut these clouds! x

  2. Ah, there's the Vicky I missed all the time you were on break! You are a hoot and a half! Were you high as a kite when you made your card/post by any chance? Hee hee. (Just kidding, if you're like me, you're more quick-witted when you don't drink.) You made a beautiful design with your friendly clouds and high-flying kite! I understand why we can't see a video of the prodigal as Bert, but I wish we could! Take care and keep safe and thanks for sharing at NBUS! Hugs, Darnell

  3. Yes indeed those showers have arrived Vicky, in fact 3/4 of an inch here since yesterday morning, but the gardens and paddocks needed it.

You card is right on queue with those floaty clouds and the cool colours spot on.

    1. I loved it and always 'went to Mumland' when anyone said anything nice about my children! I miss it now the children have all left home - but now people say nice things about Eva! x

  6. What a sweet and pretty card Vicky and I love the colours you've used. I remember this song well from Mary Poppins. I belong to a small concert party group and we have sung songs from this on a few occasions, but funnily enough not this particular one. I am beginning to miss my singing. We would have been well under way with our rehearsals for this summers five concerts which of course are not now taking place. x

    1. What a lovely thing, to belong to a concert party group. I'm sure you are missing your singing - it is such a stress buster too. Wondering if you could sing together via Zoom? x

  7. Just fabulous, Vicky! Anything sponged like this has me for a starter but your softly inked up clouds and hand drawn strings and tails really stepped things up. Love it! Thanks for playing along with us at Retro Rubber Challenge.

  9. Love the blues and those clouds - just fab! Die they come with a die too? I saw the same shape as an outline die somewhere in blogland yesterday and it immediately reminded me of your lovely card. Oh to go fly a kite!

    1. Love these watery blues too. I don't know if there is a die for this set - maybe there was once? It is an old set - I'm a bit late to the party! Kites always look fun but I don't think I've ever worked out how to get them to fly properly!!
