Hello, crafting friends!
Welcome to another fun challenge at CAS Colours and Sketches! It's the sketch's turn this week and this month's host Jenny has designed an interesting sketch with three elements:
I had been looking through my designer paper drawer this weekend and thought I'd harness the power of a bold pattern!
The paper I used on this card was a freebie in a Stampin' Up promotion earlier in the year and I love its bright flowers against the black background. I simply cut the elements to size and mounted them onto black card to blend in with the background of the paper.
I don't have a hello die with a 'shadow' piece so resorted to stamping one, from WPlus9's Hello and Thanks, and fussy cutting it with sharp paper snips, which gives the same effect. I added shine with Crystal Effects for a bit of extra detail. Just in case you fancy replicating this card, the black piece of backing card measures 3 3/4" (9.5cm) high x 3 1/4" (8.5cm) wide. The top piece of dsp is 1 7/8" ( 4.7cm) high x 3" (7.7cm). The two bottom pieces are 1 3/8" (3cm) square. You're welcome!
So now it's over to you! Hop over to the CAS Colours and Sketches challenge site and enjoy all the gorgeous samples my team mates have created. You'll find the Linky Tool at the bottom of the post and you can share your own creation with us there. I can't wait to see what you make!
CHALLENGES
I'm linking this card up with Time Out Challenges where there's a lovely quote to inspire us. I thought the black-based floral paper could work for either joy or sadness and the hello sentiment is about connecting with friends.
AND IN OTHER NEWS
The weather has turned now. It has become cooler with a brisk breeze, and the sunshine is broken up with showers.
Eva loves this kind of weather!
What a lovely card made from the sketch. Great idea to go BOLD.
ReplyDeleteI see Eva's having a whale of a time in the autumn weather.
Hugs, Sarn xxx
Gorgeous! I'm going down the line and everyone used such wonderful patterned papers. Duh...it never even crossed my mind. LOL! Brilliant.
ReplyDeleteGreat minds think alike Vicky! I also found this to be a wonderful sketch to showcase pretty paper. It is something I have way too much of and don’t use nearly often enough. I like how you’ve created the sentiment. The Crystal Effects looks wonderful. (You have more patience than I do - I just used a die!)
ReplyDeleteLove this! Those bold prints are working overtime on your pretty card, especially with that snazzy sentiment!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bold colours and a fabulous sentiment Vicky,it's a great layout. The colours match your pen beautifully.Eva looks really happy to be running on that path.
ReplyDeleteI just love those papers Vicky - so bold and colourful and your shiny stamped 'hello' is a great faux diecut too! Eva looks like she's having fun - time to wrap up this week I think!
ReplyDeleteThe weather sure has turned, but your creations cheer us up, what vibrant colours, and your snowflake and holly cards are pretty too! Xxx

The sketch was a perfect way to use your beautiful DP and the black cardstock framing really made your DP's flowers pop. I love how you fussy cut the white shadow for your die cut sentiment too. TFS your beautiful card and a photo of Eva enjoying a beautiful and cooler Fall day:-) Love and Hugs..Nancy
ReplyDeleteA flower window. A nice idea!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bold patterned paper! It looks fantastic in this sketch. Your dog looks very happy:)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your interpretation on the sketch Vicky, the patterns are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI am with Eva on the weather. I love fall most of all! Warm days and cool nights and that wonderful smell in the air! Love your card. I had a giggle about the pen and how similar the DP is to the design. And you are a fussy cutting rock star! I would have have known that white backing on your sentiment is not die cut. I am indeed impressed! Thanks for sharing this beauty with us at Time Out. Always great to see you in the gallery.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card! So striking against the white. Eva looks very happy!
ReplyDeleteFritz & I agree with Eva--so much better for our walks! Love the picture of her! Beautiful floral paper & card, Vicky! The sentiment looks fabulous!
