Designer paper card and gift box

Oh my goodness, it's hard to watch the items on the Last Chance List switch to No Longer Available! These items are so familiar to me as a Stampin' Up demonstrator. Do you think it's like a teacher saying goodbye to a class at the end of the year? I think if I were a teacher I might feel fond of some of my pupils, and rather proud of their achievements, and it's definitely like that with my favourite products.

It's always hard to say goodbye to some of the gorgeous designer papers like the stunning Greenhouse Gala range. Here's a simple card I made which showcases my favourite design from the pack:

I fell in love with this paper the moment I saw it! Those magnificent flowers and that colour scheme need very little in the way of embellishment but I think Wild Wasabi card stock teams well with the paper and I simply added a strip of 5/8" grosgrain ribbon and a punched sentiment. ALL colours in this ribbon style are retiring, as well as the Designer Label punch - a particular favourite of mine.

I made this cute mini milk carton to match the card - it's a Bigz L die which makes short work of creating little treat boxes and favours as it cuts and scores everything for you! Do you recognise the little library clip? Some of you were lucky enough to get these free with the August special offer - I adore them!

And here they are together making a very happy couple!

At the end of our road there's a public swimming pool, which is very handy for the children who like to meet their friends there. My youngest son was telling me how much progress he's made with his swimming. He could now do several strokes, he told me, but his favourite was "that one where you look like a frog". Ah yes, that'll be the breaststroke then!

I'm still in a terrible muddle because of reorganising my Craft Square Metre! Thank you so much for all your words of wisdom and sympathy - they are all very much appreciated. In fact I didn't mean to post this at all today as I wanted to show you the present I made for my lovely cousin when I went to visit her in Northern Ireland. Designer paper card

I've been having a look through my designer papers this week and they were out on my desk when I saw Natasha's fabulous FTL156 sketch at Clean and Simple stamping. Naturally, since all those lovely papers were in front of me, I had a little play and in the back of my mind I was thinking about this month's challenge at the St Lukes Charity Card Challenge - to take four items from the 'buffet' and use them to make a card:

The Newsprint paper range contains a selection of printed pieces some ideal for backgrounds, some perfect for cutting images and numbers out of and some perfect for focal pieces in their own right! I've chosen a piece of book print for the background here, which I cut to make use of the vertical line. A piece of Certainly Celery 5/8" grosgrain ribbon sits to the right of the line with the flower on top. To make this I just cut several of the flowers out of a showstopping paper from the Greenhouse Gala range, snipped between some of the petals and layered them together. Instead of a sentiment I used leaves cut with the two-step bird punch.

For those that like to know, my four items from the St Lukes 'card buffet' are designer paper, a flower, ribbon and a punch and I shall be posting my card off with several others to be sold to raise funds for this truly worthwhile charity. Yesterday we had a picnic planned as a last summer holiday get together with friends so naturally we woke up to torrential rain lashing against the windows and a gale force wind howling around the house! You'll be pleased to know however that in true British spirit we did meet up and went for a bracing walk together - a VERY bracing walk in fact!

FTL Challenge 132 - using Greenhouse Gala paper

Wouldn't it be nice, I thought this morning, to make a card for a challenge! I popped over to the Clean and Simple Stamping site and found this sketch there.
I had a great plan involving lollipop trees but don't they say that the best-laid plans go awry? Mine went completely skew-whiff! Eventually I came up with this:

What is it? I'm not sure... I went into a little world of my own when I was making it and, when I came out of the little world, this is what had happened! I know that there is no plant on this earth that looks like this and while some people might call it artistic licence, others would call it taking liberties!

Globe asparagus? I've no idea really!

This is my favourite bit! I thought the scallop trim border looked like victorian garden edging in Cajun Craze and I do love those little tags tied up with linen thread.

Here's how to make this card:

• Cut an A4 sheet of Crumb Cake card stock in half vertically. Score and fold in half to make a card base.
• Using Always Artichoke ink, stamp some stems onto the card front and add some leaves. Cut some of the artichoke shapes out of Greenhouse Gala designer paper (DP) with sharp paper snips and glue to the top of the stems.
• Cut a 9.75cm x 4.25cm piece of coordinating DP. Decorate the edge of some Cajun Craze card stock with the scallop trim border punch, trim to fit the paper and glue under the edge.
• Use snail adhesive to position a length of Early Espresso 5/8" grosgrain ribbon around the DP and tie it with a piece of linen thread.
• Stamp a decorative border and sentiment from the Tiny Tags stamp set onto a scrap of Crumb Cake card stock and cut out with the jewellery tag punch. Cut another tag out of Cajun Craze card stock. Pierce a hole in the tops of these and push the linen thread through them. Finish with a bow.
• Glue the DP panel onto the card front.

While I was making this card my youngest son wandered into the room. "Thank the Lord for underwear!" he announced in a heartfelt way. I asked why (rather bravely I thought!) but he had already left the room. So we shall never know what dreadful disaster had been averted by his trusty underpants!

Greenhouse Gala card and diaper fold treat pouch

Good morning! Today, I've been having more fun with my Greenhouse Gala designer papers. They're on special offer this month and, at only £7.00 a pack, down from £8.75, they are a Must Have in my opinion! (Click here to see this and all the other bargains to be had this month!) Here's a quick card I made using them:

The colours are so gorgeous in this range and it's easy to pick out colours to use for embellishments. I used leaves from the 2-step bird punch, a Boho Blossoms punched flower, more flowers made of layered circles and coloured brads - so quick, and the possibilities are endless!

Here's how to make this card:

• Cut a 10cm x 20cm piece of Early Espresso card stock. Score and fold in half to make a card base.
• Cut an 8cm x 6cm piece of designer paper and mount it on a 8.5cm x 6.5cm piece of More Mustard card stock.
• Add a sentiment using a stamp-a-majig for accurate positioning.
• Make a hole in the panel with the 1/8" handheld punch and thread a piece of Early Espresso ribbon through it. Tie in a knot. Attach the panel to the card front.
• Add flower and leaf embellishments finished with coloured brads.

Sometimes it's hard to stop at making a card though...

...You only need a 6" x 6" piece of designer paper to make this diaper fold treat pouch to match the card (click here for a tutorial by the talented Beate Johns.)

I made some more of my wrapped and decorated mini bars of chocolate to pop in the pouch. I LOVE  making these - but it is important to buy more than you need as they do seem to disappear while you're decorating them... (I'm looking VERY innocent here!)

 And there we are! A lovely way to say thank you or to let someone know you care.

Well it's almost the weekend and I've decided that unless the temperature rises above 2 degrees I'm not leaving the house! (Another excellent excuse to spend all my time crafting!) Three Minute Thursday - thank you card using Greenhouse Gala

Good morning! Welcome to Three Minute Thursday, home of the super-fast card!

Today, I have a thank you card to show you using the Greenhouse Gala designer paper that's on special offer at the moment (only £7.00 instead of £8.75). This range of papers includes some really show-stopping designs as well as some more muted patterns and is a real favourite of mine.

I chose two different tone-on-tone papers in the same colour for this card and stamped straight onto the background with the Medallion stamp to divide them.

The flower takes seconds to make using the fancy flower punch - which is now available at last and costs £15.50. The flower is held together with the largest of the Circle Ice brads. I always want to mention these in hushed tones because they are SO beautiful! The carton contains four colours, lilac, light blue, turquoise and green, and there are three sizes of each colour. You get 80 brads for £8.75 - well worth it for such stunning embellishments.

The underside of the flower is this sizzling Missoni-style design. I like the way you catch just a glimpse of it when the card is lying down.

You can make some amazing 3D flowers using the Stampin' Up punches but I have fallen in love with this camelia-shaped flower you get when you layer with the fancy flower punch.

Here's how to make this card:

• Cut a 9cm x 18cm piece of Whisper White card stock. Score and fold it into a card base.
• Cut a 7.5cm square piece of the tone-on-tone designer paper. Ink up the medallion stamp with Garden Green ink and stamp in the bottom left-hand corner. If you have time, sponge the edges of the paper. Attach to the card front.
• Stamp the sentiment using Basic Black ink and a stamp-a-majig for accuracy.
• Cut three flowers using the fancy flower punch. Stack these together and snip all three at once between the petals towards the centre. Pierce a hole in the centre of the three and fasten together with a large Circle Ice brad. Arrange the petals.
• Fix onto the card front using glue dots or Sticky Strip.

I have a bonus card to show you today! My daughter recently went on a ski trip with her school and my lovely friend (who is slim and gorgeous like my daughter!) kindly lent her lots of ski clothes and equipment. When she returned and we laundered everything and packed it up ready to go back, I suggested that my daughter might want to add a thank you note. This is the result:

She made a ski slope using my favourite masking and sponging technique and the Lovely as a Tree stamp set! My clever girl!

Greenhouse Gala coordinated gift set

I loved Sale-a-bration - didn't you?! It's always great to watch my customers getting freebies! Of course it's all over now and things could have fallen a bit flat but now those fabulous Stampin' Up people have come up with another way to cheer us all up: March Frenzy! Instead of free stamps they've knocked up to 30% off each of these crafting goodies - looks like a bargain to me!

One of my favourites on the list is the Greenhouse Gala designer paper, usually £8.75 but now only £7.00. In the pack you get 12 double-sided sheets of 12" x 12" paper which you can use to make all sorts of beautiful bags and boxes, cards and scrapbook pages. Here's a little card and some treats I made using some of the papers.

This paper is so dynamic it needs little more than some coordinating lengths of ribbon and a stamped and punched sentiment! The sentiment is from Perfect Punches - the quickest way to add a sentiment: stamp it, punch it, attach it!

These Green and Blacks mini chocolate bars make lovely treats when wrapped in the papers and decorated with ribbon, punched flowers, leaves and brads. We were talking about hobbies today and I'm not sure if my boys have the hang of it at all. My eldest son cast me a reproachful look, saying that he wished I hadn't thrown out the Argos catalogue as reading it had been his hobby. My youngest son capped this by announcing cheerfully that his hobby was looking out of the window!

Ribbon inspiration thank you cards

You are probably aware by now that I have a special offer on at the moment enabling you to have loads of ribbon to play with in all sorts of different colours and styles - at a fraction of the cost of buying full reels (click here for more information). This week I'm showing you projects I've made with some of the ribbons in the pack and, today, I'm showing you a ribbon technique that works with circle punches of the same diameter as the width of your ribbon.

The first card uses the 1/8" handheld circle punch with the 1/8" taffeta ribbon for example. Now because this ribbon is quite narrow, some of you may overlook it; but you can do so many things with this kind of ribbon that you can't do with wider styles and, in my opinion, its stitched white border makes it a show-stopper. In my special pack you get three colours - Early Espresso, Marina Mist and Rich Razzleberry - and I've chosen to use the sumptuous Razzleberry today.

It's easy to create this pretty effect with this type of ribbon and it adds something special to the stamped image without overwhelming it.  I'm very excited to be using new stamps today! This is a level one hostess set called Silhouette sentiments and I love it! I like to create gardens with my floral stamp sets and it's great fun with these delicate plants. More Mustard and Rich Razzleberry made a nice rich colour mix and I have found that Bravo Burgundy is just right as a base for Rich Razzleberry.

Here's how to make this card

• Cut a piece of Very Vanilla card stock 8cm wide x 11.5cm high. Scallop the bottom with the scallop border punch.
• Turn the card stock over and draw a straight line across it about 2.5cm up from the scallop. Mark 1/2cm increments along the line. Using this as a guide punch some holes using the 1/8" handheld punch.
• Stamp the three plants from Silhouette Sentiments onto separate corners of the imaging sheet (use any ink you have to hand.) Now colour in the stamps and stamp a row of the flowers using the stamp-a-majig for accurate placement. Use the stamp-a-majig to stamp the sentiment.
• Thread 1/8" taffeta ribbon through the holes and tie a neat bow at the side.
• Mount the panel onto a piece of More Mustard card stock cut 8.5cm x 10.5cm.
• Mount this onto a Burgundy card base - mine was an obscure size because I didn't need an envelope with this card, but it will work well with an A5 card base.

I also wanted to show you a bolder version of this card, using the 1/4" grosgrain ribbon and the 1/4" circle punch. Here I've used Real Red ribbon against the delicious Tangerine Tango.

I adore ALL the papers from the Greenhouse Gala collection (as you may know by now...!) and would HIGHLY recommend this pack to anyone who'd like a selection of papers to make bags and boxes with as well as using for cards and scrapbooking. And have you spotted my new sentiment stamp set? It's called Thank you Kindly and, since I send so many thank you cards, I thought it was about time I had this set! Already, I can see it's going to be a firm favourite.

Well, that's all for today folks. For anyone interested, I have absolutely no idea what my cat was trying to say yesterday. She just led me round the house for a bit, meowing. I suspect she might have been complaining bitterly about the inferior brand of cat food she is forced to eat and suggesting that tins of tuna or freshly roasted chicken would be the way forward. Eventually I bored her into submission (I'm an expert at this as my children will testify!) and she retired to her little bed, muttering occasionally.

And check out the beautiful 'thanks' sentiment. It's from the new Perfect Punches stamp set and can be cut out with the scallop oval punch - how quick and simple is that?!

The box is tiny - just one inch cubed! I love the way it looks with the organza ribbon tied in a bow bigger than it is!  For extra detail, I added a couple of tags punched out with the jewellery punch and sewed them to the ribbon with cotton. This would be the perfect box for a ring or earrings or another tiny gift  - and what with Christmas coming up...!

Greenhouse Gala thank you card - new colour!

I didn't used to get excited about yellows in the same way as I do about my beloved greens, oranges, browns and blues. But all that changed when I started playing with Daffodil Delight - I absolutely adore it and feel it's added a new string to my bow. It works beautifully with greens, oranges and browns but look what happens when you pair it with a strong blue like Pacific Point:

Oh - I just love this punchy colour combination! Those pretty flowers were just cut from one of the gorgeous Greenhouse Gala designs - really easy to do because they have a strong outline. And the sentiment is from one of the stamps in the Perfect Punches set. I coloured in only the sentiment with a marker and omitted the decorative edge - using this method, you're essentially getting two sentiments for your money!

Here's how to make this card:

• Make a 8cm square card blank using Daffodil Delight card stock.
• Cut a piece of Pacific Point card stock 7cm x 5.5cm. Pierce a decorative border along the long sides using your paper piercer and the template from the Mat Pack.
• Colour the 'thanks' of the sentiment stamp with a marker and stamp it onto the card base using the Pacific Point panel as a guide to position and using the stamp-a-majig for accurate stamping.
• Attach a loop of Pumpkin Pie ribbon to the side of the Pacific Point panel and fix the panel to the card blank with dimensionals.
• Cut a small and a large flower from the Greenhouse Gala designer paper and glue to the card front.

This card is a good example of how committed I am to making sure you get the most value out of your Stampin' Up supplies. Using the same stamp in different ways, combining different colours to get new looks, using designer papers, ribbons and other accessories in a variety of ways - these are all good ways of making your kit work really hard!

Perfect Punches birthday card - new colour!

I'm really enjoying showing you cards I've made using Stampin' Up's new colours. Today I'm using the colour that excited me most when I saw the new range - Cherry Cobbler, a really classy, elegant red. Not that I've done anything classy or elegant with it today! - but come and see anyway:

More of that gorgeous Greenhouse Gala paper is on show here - and just to show you how versatile this range is, I thought this card would be particularly good for boys. The fabulous birthday sentiment is from the Perfect Punches stamp set and it can be cut out effortlessly using the coordinating punch - all of the stamps in this set have a coordinating punch. Have you spotted the piercing adding definition to the edges of the gorgeous Pacific Point panel? It is so quick and easy to do this using the template from the Mat Pack that I find myself reaching for it all the time!

How to make this card:

• Cut a A4 sheet of Cherry Cobbler card stock in half vertically. Score and fold in half to make a card base.
• Cut a panel from the Greenhouse Gala designer paper about 8cm x 12cm. Trim the bottom into spikes with paper snips, following the pattern of the paper. Glue to the card base.
• Cut a piece of Pacific Point card stock 6cm x 9cm. Sponge the edges with Pacific Point ink and pierce a border round it using your paper piercer and the template from the Mat Pack. Attach to the designer paper.
• Colour the birthday sentiment stamp with markers and stamp onto a piece of Whisper White card stock. Cut out using the extra large oval punch and fix to the blue panel with dimensionals.
• That's it!

Greenhouse Gala coordinated gift set

I am in love again! No - it's not George Clooney this time, it's Stampin' Up's new Greenhouse Gala papers... they are sublime! They are so stunning that you actually need very little to turn them into a  card. Here's a thank you card I made today:

Oh the colours! It's funny how when you see the swatches of colour, you don't really know which of the colours will be your favourites, but actually I'm really excited about all the new colours - working with them feels like a holiday to me! Here, the Pear Pizzaz of the paper contrasts gorgeously with Marina Mist, Chocolate Chip and Early Espresso. Yum!

Here's how to make this card:

• Make an A5 card blank out of Marina Mist card stock.
• Cut an A6 piece of Chocolate Chip card stock and scallop the long sides with the scallop border punch. Attach to the centre of the card blank.
• Cut a piece of designer paper 14.8cm high x 8cm wide. Pierce holes down each long side and join them up with a white gel pen to form faux stitching. Fix three rows of 1/8" taffeta ribbon around the paper and attach to the Chocolate Chip panel.
• Stamp the sentiment from Perfect Punches onto a scrap of Whisper White card stock. Cut it out with the large oval punch and colour in the patterned section using Marina Mist ink and a blender pen. 
• Cut out a piece of Marina Mist card stock with the square scallop punch. Mount the sentiment on top of this using dimensionals and attach it to the card front with more dimensionals.

I thought it would be nice to make a gift bag to coordinate with the card:

This is quite a large bag that you could fit all sorts of lovely goodies inside! It's made easily by joining two 12"x12" sheets of paper together. The Marina Mist tabs at the top of the bag have been made with the round tab punch. Well, I'm very well aware that my adoration of Greenhouse Gala is preventing me from showing you all the exciting new items in the fabulous new catalogue.
