FTL Challenge 122 using Bliss

It's ages since I had the time to do a challenge - so let's get onto it right away! I've always been a big fan of the FTL challenges on the Clean and Simple Stamping site so I thought I'd start there. Here's this week's sketch:

I decided to flip it round and here's my take on it:

The butterfly is from Bliss, one of the free Sale-a-bration sets, and this is one of my favourite papers from the Greenhouse Gala range (although, let's face it, they're all pretty gorgeous!) My latest best thing is textured card stock, which I think is so elegant. Here it's used to make the card base in Sahara Sand.

I had an idea about the butterflies. I wanted it to look as if they're flying out of the floral panel!

This isn't exactly a winter colour scheme - perhaps I'm just yearning for warm weather... Anyone else feel like this?! If I were to be abducted by aliens this winter, they'd report that humans are blue and have a rubber bottle filled with hot water attached to their bodies!

Here's how to make this card:

  • Cut an A5 piece of Sahara Sand textured card stock. Score and fold in half to make a card base.
  • Cut a piece of Wild Wasabi card stock 11cm high x 10.5cm wide and scallop the bottom with the scallop border punch.
  • Mount a 9cm high x 10.5cm wide piece of toning designer paper onto the Wild Wasabi card stock and fix it to the card front.
  • Cut four rectangles of the floral designer paper 4cm high and 4.5cm wide. Sponge the edges with Sahara Sand ink and fix them to the card front.
  • Stamp the butterfly three times on smooth Sahara Sand card stock using Real Red ink. Add definition to the bodies using the thin end of a Riding Hood Red marker and cut the butterflies out. Arrange them over the floral rectangles, cutting away the part of the bottom butterfly that overlaps its rectangle. Use glue and/or Sticky Strip to attach them. (TIP: A thin piece of Sticky Strip will hold a butterfly's body firmly in place so that its wings can be bent right up.)
  • Stamp a sentiment onto smooth Sahara Sand card stock using Real Red ink. Cut out using the word window punch and trim one of the edges. Attach to the edge of its floral rectangle.

Supplies
Stamps: Bliss (free Sale-a-bration set), Silhouette Sentiments (free hostess set)
Ink: Real Red, Sahara Sand
Card stock:  Sahara Sand smooth and textured card stock, Wild Wasabi
Other: Greenhouse Gala designer paper, scallop border and word window punches, Riding Hood Red marker

I thoroughly enjoyed making this card, although its not my usual style. I've said it before and I'll say it again - it's good to move outside our comfort zones sometimes!

Thanks for visiting my blog today. I'll be back tomorrow with more inspiration for the Bliss set.
Hope to see you then,
