FTL Challenge 126 - valentine using a treat cup

I've been looking at the sketch challenge on the clean and simple stamping site and wondering what I might do with it... and today it came to me! That central image was just crying out for a treat cup! And because Valentine's day is coming up, what better than a heart-shaped treat cup! Here's the sketch:

...And here's what I came up with:

The treat cup coordinates with the large heart punch. You just punch a hole in the designer paper, fit it over the treat cup, fill the cup with something yummy and back it with card stock. That's all there is to it!

I know I keep saying this, but it's such fun to make your own sentiments! I used my stamp-a-majig to line up 'to my' and 'love' from my Basic Phrases stamp set and popped 'sweet' from Hello You in the middle. But the best fun is making up comedy sentiments... Go on - you know you want to! (Memorable sentiments in our family include "Oy you fiend!" and "Happy day Mrs Thing!")

The treat cups make a fabulous feature on a card and children love getting them (actually EVERYONE loves getting them!) They also come in a circular shape that you can use for flowers and wheels etc.

This is how deep the treat cups are. Just pop it in a padded envelope if you want to post it.

Here's how to make this card:

  • Stamp the heart outline from Sweetheart in Cherry Cobbler ink on the heart print designer paper from the Play Date range. Trim the paper to 7.5cm wide and 6cm high and cut a heart from the centre with the large heart punch.
  • Put dots of Tombow round the rim of a heart-shaped treat cup and push the designer paper down over it.
  • Fill the cup with red treats (or heart-shaped confetti cut out with the small heart punch works well) and back it with an 8cm x 6.5cm piece of Real Red card stock.
  • Cut an 8.5cm x 9.5cm piece of Whisper White card stock. Using the treat cup panel as a guide to where you want your sentiment, use a stamp-a-majig to position your choice of words. Curve the bottom corners with a corner-rounder.
  • Snip the ends of a piece of ribbon and position it onto the white panel. Mount the treat cup panel on top with Sticky Strip.
  • Cut an A4 piece of Real Red card stock in half vertically. Score and fold it in half to make a card base. Attach the treat panel to the card front.

Supplies
Stamps: Sweetheart, Basic Phrases and Hello You (sentiment)
Ink: Cherry Cobbler, Basic Black
Card stock: Real Red, Whisper White
Other: Treat cup, Real Red 5/8" grosgrain ribbon, Play Date designer paper, Real Red marker

Here's the Valentine's day chat in our house: My teenage daughter raises her eyes to the ceiling and says: "Oh no, please say you're not giving us Valentine's cards! It's SO embarrassing!" She's at the stage where if your valentines don't come from attractive, charismatic young men, they're not worth having! "If you want chocolate then you're getting a Valentine's card," I tell her. She considers this. "Oh. Well in that case..."

Thanks for visiting my blog today. If you're interested in making cards in three minutes flat, do join me tomorrow for Three Minute Thursday when I'll have no less than three speedy cards to show you!
