Masculine Monday - shaped boys birthday card

I'm starting the week with a masculine card as usual and today the men are moving over and it's the turn of the boys! The challenge over at CAS-ual Fridays is to make an unusual-shaped card and that was my inspiration for this boys' card:

I can't tell you how far outside my comfort zone this took me! A shaped card? To me that was a definite no-no! But I'm actually surprised and pleased at how this turned out and it was great fun to make! I started by drawing the grass on an A6 Wild Wasabi card base and cutting the shape out of front and back with my sharp paper snips. I added a Pear Pizzazz embossed layer that got the same treatment, then added a Certainly Celery strip with the sentiment stamped on it in Poppy Parade - let's just zoom in on that:

I love this gorgeous, gentle-looking tortoise and didn't see why he should only be allowed out for belated cards! I stamped him in Early Espresso ink and clear embossed him, then coloured his body with a Crumb Cake marker and his shell with a Soft Suede marker. I've cut his hat out with one arm of my star punch and popped it up on a piece of dimensional. I must confess to adding the turquoise stripe afterwards when my children kept asking me why he was wearing a traffic cone on his head!

Supplies needed for this card:
Stamps: Nature's Nest, Party This Way
Ink: Early Espresso, Poppy Parade
Card stock: Wild Wasabi, Pear Pizzazz, Certainly Celery
Other: Markers, paper snips, Square Lattice embossing folder, clear embossing powder
You can buy any of these supplies from me and I can have them delivered to your address in the UK. Just send me an email or give me a call on 01280 820593.

I hope you had a fabulous weekend. I waved goodbye to my rather bleary teenage daughter who's spending a couple of days away earning her Duke of Edinburgh award bronze medal. I am so very proud of her because hiking about in the mud in survival mode is as far outside her comfort zone as a shaped card is outside mine - well quite a bit further actually!

Thank you for coming to visit me today and perhaps for spending a bit of your time leaving me a comment. I really do appreciate it and look forward to returning the compliment! I'll be back tomorrow to show you a gift set I've been making. Hope to see you then,

  10. Adorable, Vicky! I think the little party hat on the turtle is fabulous... and, I agree, why should he always be late? Even us tortoises start out early and arrive on time once in awhile! :)
I'm going to try to catch up with you today... can't believe I'm 20 posts behind... how can that be?!?
