These went down a storm let me tell you! Both boys liked the minimalist chocolate-coloured packaging and they were rather taken with the the decoration on the lid...
...which my youngest son said reminded him of Jammy Dodgers (but I'm not saying where my inspiration came from!)
I made the boxes out of the beautifully textured Early Espresso Core'dinations card stock, sponging the cut edges with ink to cover up the paler coloured core. You may notice that one of the boxes is ridged - that's because I made a mistake when scoring it so, instead of throwing it away and starting again, I scored it all the way up and made a design feature out of it! (I'm here to make the mistakes so you don't have to!)
Here's what the boys found inside their posh boxes:

You may have spotted the little fudge bar inside the box. Does anyone remember the advert for them that used to be on TV in the 80s? I used to make toast and cut it into fingers and sing 'A finger of toast is just enough to give the kids a treat' which was quite enough to get my children excited and much better for them! Ah the power of marketing!
See you tomorrow,
Oh, Jammy Dodgers! We get those when we visit my inlaws, but they don't have them here in Canada! Love the manly boxes - I'll have to remember that for next year for my son - they're perfect!
ReplyDeleteThese boxes are brilliant, Vicky! Love them! They are such a great idea for masculine gifts, but they could be easily changed to accomodate something feminine.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Jennifer. x
P.S. Also loved the commercial video - quite catchy!
Oh thankyou for that blast from the past Vicky.... 10p!!! You can't get chocolate for 10p now :0)
ReplyDeleteLove the boxes and the unintentional ribbing looks really cool and adds to the manliness I think.
I need to make a gift box today so I'll put my simply scored to use too :0)

These are great and I think I like the scored version best!!
ReplyDeleteLOL - at the Finger of Fudge ad, which I loved, and at the ridges on the box. I did exactly the same when making a box the other day and, like you, turned it into a feature! Repeat: There are NO mistakes in rubber stamping
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely boxes, Vicky, and you can't beat old school sweeties! Yes, I certainly do remember that advert, doesn't it look old now? Ahhh, the 80s... xxxxx
ReplyDeleteAwesom way to gift a V-day treat for the guys! And, the box with the 'addtional score lines' looks amazing! I'd call this a great save!
ReplyDeleteWOWZER Vicky, these are VERY manly and fabulous, no wonder they both liked them.
ReplyDeleteYes! I remeber too many adverts LOL.
