Challenging challenges

Hello

I've been happily making bloggy visits over the past couple of days and there are plenty of exciting things going on in Blogland. I'd forgotten about card challenges for example since I've been away!

The Paper Players have a Masculine CAS challenge (yes!) and LeAnne and Joanne have both combined their DT samples with this gorgeous design challenge from CASe This Sketch, which inspired me even more!

I had an extra challenge in that I have very limited craft stash at the moment but I wasn't going to let a tiny thing like that stop me! Come and see what I made:

One thing I do have left is a pile of designer papers and this card was made with papers from a gorgeous SU retired pack called Storytime. The lined 'exercise book' paper forms the background, with some added off-cuts to echo the strong lines of the challenge sketch. For the grass, I mixed a drop of Wild Wasabi re-inker with a little water and sponged it onto the background paper.

My masculine element is quite a bit younger than the bearded chaps in the Paper Players graphic but guys come in all shapes, sizes and ages don't they! Talking of shapes, my particular young man and his pup had to be cut out in the old fashioned way with sharp scissors - thank goodness for my specs! The SU birthday sentiment is so old I can't remember where it came from. It is NOT what I would have chosen but it was all I had. I am definitely going to invest in some gorgeous sentiment sets. Does anyone have any recommendations?

To finish off, I added more of the lined paper inside the card and wanted to add some Crystal Effects to the balloon but nope, it's gone. *sad face*.

A heatwave has hit the UK with temperatures soaring far too high for comfort - especially if you are a floofy golden girl!  Last year, a kind neighbour came round with a paddling pool for Eva pup and guess what? My water baby, who cannot stay out of the river and wallows in any available puddle, wouldn't get into the pool! It was too scary! We had to coax her... and YAY!!! Happy puppy!

Thanks for joining me today. I'll be back soon with more crafting fun :)

  1. Super job of fussy cutting, Vicky! The lined paper makes a perfect background! I can see you are off and running. There are lots of sentiments in the Hero Arts sets Everyday Sayings and Many Everyday Messages.

  2. Yay! So happy to see you using what you HAVE to create and join some challenges! I just loved this paper series, so much so that I still am (ahem) hoarding mine! You've inspired me to get it out and use it! I think it reminds me of my own "Dick and Jane" school days! Now, as far as good sentiments...I am sure Joanne could fix you up with some! Here's A Card has some inside/outside sentiments for all occasions, and they're a bit humorous too....you could start with that!

    1. Yes, I know what you mean - definitely a nostalgic feel to those Storytime images. I've not heard of Here's A Card but will check them out - thanks :)

  3. This is so lovely. It reminds me of the reading primers I used as a child! As for sentiment sets - you'll find many, many, many of them! Usually what I do is zero in on a card (that someone else has made) that has a sentiment that pleases me and then I look up the stamp set that was used. This leads to many enjoyable hours discovering more stamp sets from that company! It never seems to end! Good luck discovering new things for your stash!

  4. Thanks Jen. Thats really sound advice (although I think 'many enjoyable hours' is slightly worrying me!)

I'm sad to say poor Tuppence died of a stroke in 2015. She was a grand old lady - 19 years old. She is missed.

  9. Fabulous card Vicky in your amazing style.
My two favourite companies for stamps apart from SU are Clearly Besotted and Uniko. Both have some amazing ranges.

  13. Vicky I have loved catching up with your blog again this week and can honestly say you clearly haven't lost your crafty touch - you are amazing me with your creations from your limited stash! Ok so confession time - I too have a (substantial!) stash of this DSP, having hoarded it for teacher's cards primarily, so this little chap really speaks to me! Great use of the sketch too. As for sentiment sets - so many to choose from. One of my current favourite birthday sets is Stampin' Up!'s Itty Bitty Birthdays, but there really are so many to choose from. Enjoy replenishing your crafty stash! Thanks for joining us over at The Paper Players this week! P.S. Sorry to read about Tuppence - I remember her with fondness!

  14. Aw, thanks Joanne! I think it's hard NOT to hoard DSP if you're primarily a card maker - especially a CAS card maker. I wrap gifts with mine but I still have heaps. Thanks for inspiring me at Paper Players - always loved this challenge! And thanks for your kind words about Tuppence. We miss her.
