Double Fluffy Furballs

Hello crafting pals!

It's probably just as well that while I was making today's cards, my charming assistant, Eva the Golden Retriever, was having a gentle snoozle. She'd had a busy morning swooshing post it notes off the coffee table with her tail. Every time she did it, I was gripped with the giggles and that made her tail wag harder and harder until there was a snow storm of post it notes and I was helpless with laughter! Anyway, I digress - come and see my creations, which feature *mouths words silently* a pussycat:

Yes, not just one card but two! It's because I'm enthusiastically playing along with the Twofer Card Challenge in which we are asked to make two cards, each for a different occasion but using the same stamp. This month the theme is Critters so I've chosen one of the cats from a very cute stamp set called Fluffy Furball by Clearly Besotted.

The first card I made was a birthday card:

I stamped Harry (I've named him after the red-headed prince), added a doodled smile and a paw, coloured him with Spectrum Noir markers and cut him out. I gave him a paw because he had to hold this balloon which I made by colouring inside a circle mask with the markers and adding the bit you blow into.

I had to draw a cushion as I don't have a stamp for that (does ANYONE have a cushion stamp?!!) Harry was asked to sit on the cushion against a scored background which reminded me of a venetian blind - cats always sit in the window don't they! A few punched stars and a sentiment from Altenew's Birthday Greetings and the card was done!

My second card is a Christmas card and Harry has had a makeover for this one:

We'll call him Robinson (after Smokey Robinson!) I liked the idea of lots of Christmas presents coming into the house and Robinson having to make his way out from behind them.

There he is, looking a bit "What did you put these here for?!" I had great fun making the presents out of snippets of left-over Christmas papers from yesteryear. They were decorated with tiny punches and bits of washi tape.

Do come and join in at the Twofer Card Challenge! It is so much fun, coming up with two different cards to make with the same stamp!

AND IN OTHER NEWS
When Eva was a puppy, I trained her not to chase cats. Whenever we came across one, I'd say "Have you seen the pussycat?" and deliver a treat into her mouth. Eventually, she would look at me when she saw a cat because she'd know there was a nice treat coming. The instinct to chase is still there though and if she were off lead and a cat took off in front of her, all the treats in the world wouldn't stop her! She is a dog after all :)

Do you have a dog? Or a cat? Or maybe both? I'd love to hear about them in the comments below :)

See you soon,

    1. Haha, I LOVE that you have a cushion stamp Nora! So useful :) I'm not sure if all those gifts are for Robinson but I daresay he'll open them anyway...

  2. Two darling kitty cards, Vicky!! Just love Harry and Smokey! I've had many cats in my life but nowadays I make do with visits from my brother's cat Misty. Your Harry reminds me of my two orange kitties!

Thanks so much for visiting my blog and for leaving nice messages. As for my duck ... he's by Aall & Create, set #135 and I got him from Val at Snazzy's in Swindon, if you are interested.

    Happy Wednesday

  6. We had dogs, birds, and eventually settled on cats for many years. Our last two were Cinnamon (nicknamed Chubby) and Sugar. Chubby liked to launch himself off the hutch and into the middle of the Christmas tree. When he wasn't laying on those poor, bent branches, he was chewing the ribbons on the presents! I learned to leave ribbons off until the last minute, lol! Your Harry reminds me of Chubby, and I'm rather enamored with your card. Such a fun image, and I love your additions of the paw and the cushion - well done you!! Great birthday card. And your Christmas card is adorable. Brought back memories of the Chubster hiding among the presents! The eyes on these cats are amazing! Great designs on both cards, Vicky! So glad you joined us at the Twofer Challenge this month! Bev

    1. Aw, thank you for sharing your memories of Chubby (the Chubster! Adorable!) and Sugar Bev. They are such characters aren't they, although I'm sure at the time you would have preferred Chubby to keep some of his character to himself! I agree that the stamp designer has really captured the essence of 'cat' in these images :)

  7. Hey, I have those prezack same pp snippets, Claire! Thank you for the inspiration for turning them into gifts! I love your two {pussycat-ssh} cards for different occasions! The scoring adds so much great interest to both! You didn't mention the key word that your two different cards have to be two different underlying "designs," but you certainly showed that concept in your cards themselves, which is what we love!

Harry looks like the intended star of the show on his royal hand-drawn cushion (that no stamp could have done better), balloon, and stars! I think Meghan might need to get on him about his love of donuts, but he sure will be loved by the birthday recipient!

Your second horizontal design having Smokey peek out behind the Christmas presents is super cute! I can't decide if he looks surprised at the number of gifts or guilty because of what he did back behind there!!

Thank you so much for playing in Twofer Card Challenge #20! Hugs, Darnell

  9. Hi Vicky
These are both gorgeous cards and my favourite cat stamps from my favourite company. You've coloured them in beautifully, and they're lovely stamped on patterned paper too.

  10. Both cards are cute. I have no cats or dogs. I do however have a stuffed old bear. His name is Woolfie The Bear and he knows he's not real. [Bunny]``

  11. Your full-of-personality kitties are so cute and fun, Vicky ... all the detailing on your first card really makes him the star of the show ... and that second, surrounded by all those tempting gifts, looks as though he's can't wait to scratch them open! Barn cats/kittens here ... with almost as much character as these two have! Thanks so much for playing along with us at Twofer! Anita :)
