Sunshine in a flower

Hello crafting friends!

Did everyone else eat their body weight in pancakes yesterday? Oh... just me then! Anyway, never mind about flat things, it's tall things I've been trying to think about  this week. I've finally come up with sunflowers - they're tall aren't they?! Come and see what I've made:

My sunflower is from Sending Sunshine, one of my collection of Clearly Besotted florals. I stamped the sunflower cluster in dark yellow ink, coloured just one flower with alcohol markers and fussy cut it. After cleaning the stamp, I stamped it again using green ink, coloured the leaves and fussy cut those too.

On a card panel cut out with a Heffy Doodles stitched rectangle die, I drew a line with a green alcohol marker to represent a stalk, adding a darker line for depth. The sentiment is from the same stamp set - isn't that a lovely font?!

To assemble the card, I attached the card panel to a card front, added the leaves, layered the flower over the top and trimmed the overlap. I finished by dotting the flower centre with a versamark pen and heat embossing it with clear embossing powder.

Thrilled that this card won a CASology Honourable Mention!

CHALLENGES
The reason I was racking my brains about tall things is that it's the cue word at CASology this month; I'm also linking up with Seize the Birthday where they want to see lots of white space, and Festive Friday (for the second time) and I've chosen Green, Brown and a Birthday Sentiment from the inspiration list. Edited to add: Oops, I did it again - too late for Seize the Birthday! Think I need a spreadsheet or something to be more organised!

AND IN OTHER NEWS
When my daughter was little, she used to play at a neighbour's house where there was a little girl her age. One spring they were apparently playing shops in the garden and using dried food items such as pasta and sunflower seeds and later on that year, sunflowers grew there. My neighbour couldn't understand where they'd come from as she had certainly not planted them, and it was only when the girls were much older, and talking nostalgically about the games they used to play, that she realised what must have happened!

I've had unexpected plants grow in my garden that must have blown in as seed from a neighbours garden, or been dropped there by a bird. How about you? Any wonderful surprises?

Hugs,

    1. Pants is NOT what we want from the weather is it Viv?! Glad my sunflower cheered you up a bit. Spring will come (but hibernation is looking an increasingly attractive option!) x

  4. It's beautiful. I had an oak tree start to grow in a border once. I didn't realize until the stalk/ trunk was about a foot long... and when finally extricated, the roots were about 4 feet long! The culprit was an acorn from a tree about 50 yards away!

    1. I've had a tree appear in a border too - definitely need to watch out for those as they're a bit greedy and if they're too near the house can undermine the foundations! xx

  5. I ADORE sunflowers and therefore I ADORE this card. Just look at all that wonderful white space too!

I've had bonus Love In A Mist spring up, as well as a shrubby tree thing that I liked, but my DH decided was growing a bit TOO rapidly and taking over, so it was ousted!

Many hyg on this freezing day! xxx

    1. I like their heads and I like big fields of them, but they can be a bit messy for me. LOVE Love in the Mist but it just doesn't seem to want to grow in my garden :/ Your shrubby tree might have been an actual tree and that isn't a good plan!
      I know - SNOW!

  7. I love the detail on the centre of this sunflower and so perfect for the 'tall' theme (I've been puzzling this one too!) How funny about the unexpected sunflowers - my children used to love to grow them when they were little to see how high they could get them to grow - I have some great photos of them on the top of ladders trying to reach them!!

  10. This is such a beauty, Vicky! I especially love how you embossed the centre and gave it some fabulous shine. Thanks for playing along with CASology!
Years ago most of the island's cedar trees were decimated by insects so they're protected now and everyone is encouraged to plant them. We've planted a bunch on our property but by far the most gorgeous is the one that we didn't plant. I'm guessing a bird *ahem* dropped it there just for us! Also its pretty close to the cesspit which I'm guessing is now full of happy cedar roots. (TMI?)

    1. It does seem a bit mad to be stamping sunflowers but there was a good reason for it!
