A good book in the garden

Hello crafting friends!

Although crafting is my favourite thing to do in my spare time, I do love reading too. Today I made a card that combines the two! Come and see:

This is a snippets card - everything apart from the card base is an off-cut, or was made for another project but didn't make the finished creation. The white panel was a practice run of one of the Tiny Cuts dies from Neat and Tangled, a dashed line, which I cut three times. I cut the panel out with a Stitched Rectangle die by Heffy Doodles and mounted it on a blue panel...

... which you can see through the dashes. And those dashes are perfect for threading a piece of twine through and tying into a bow. The little bird sitting on the book was snipped out of an old piece of Stampin' Up designer paper. I gave him a background of flowers from Hello and Thanks by WPlus9. It was already coloured and fussy cut but I coloured green over the leaves which had been grey.

I added a final layer of dotty green paper for extra frameage. This is probably the most layered card I've ever made! The sentiment is from Stampin' Up's Sheltering Tree.

CHALLENGES
I'm playing along with The Time Out challenge today where we're being inspired by this quote: 'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need'. I shall also link up my snippety little number over at the Snippets Playground which has not, I'm glad to say, been cordoned off by the council! Happy Little Stampers is running their usual Anything Goes With Dies challenge this month so I shall also play along there.

AND IN OTHER NEWS
I've been enjoying being in the garden and sometimes reading - I'm still being much entertained by The Road to Little Dribbling by Bill Bryson. Eva has been wondering what all the giggling is about...

... and I think she's thinking of giving it a go after me!

Hope you're enjoying your weekend. Do let me know what you've been up to!

Hugs,

    1. Thanks Brenda! I was referring to the fact that in my area in the middle of England, the council has cordoned off all the children's play areas, presumably to prevent people gathering and spreading the virus. Luckily Di's Snippety playground is a virtual one so we don't have to observe the same rules there! x

  3. That's such a pretty card with the cute little bird and the lovely die cut dashes etc.

I think Eva is trying to remember which chapter she got to!

Happy Reading in the Garden . ..

  4. This is so fun Vicky. I love these are all off cuts-got mine out yesterday as not much mojo so thought it would help! Wow to the tiny cuts-they look so good and you did a great job lining them up and giving grounding to the book. I see you are reading a fun book. I am reading a historical crime book-so a bit different! Thanks for joining us at Time Out x

    1. Hi Sandie! I'm loving that Tiny Cuts die and am trying to get my tired little brain to think of clever things to do with it! I think lots of us are suffering from Mojo Meltdown at the moment so thank goodness for challenges like yours and snippety boxes and shopping our stashes! Enjoy your historical crime! x

  7. SUPER cute card, and I am always looking for a good book to read...especially older books by British authors! Maybe I can find this one too! Anyway, I am amazed by all your little bits and snips...way to go to match them all up to create such a sweet card!

    1. Thanks LeAnne! Bill Bryson is an American who lives in England with his English wife and has dual British/American citizenship. The British have taken him to their hearts because he's an expert in the art of sarcasm (the lowest form of wit some feel, but the kind we Brits like best!) I do recommend this book which has had me laughing like a drain :D

  8. This is so pretty, Vicky! Very appropriate for the times we are living in, especially where spring is sprunging and people are able to get out in their gardens or on their patios and read. Good job using snippets! And thank you for the fun photo of Eva! Take care, be safe, and enjoy the Easter weekend as best you can!! Hugs, Darnell

    1. We're having a heat wave Darnell so we're pretending to be on holiday in an isolated villa somewhere, sunbathing in the garden with books, snacks and beautiful Eva! Sometimes it's a good idea to escape from the news for a bit. Mwah!

    1. Those Heffy Doodles dies have been used almost every day in my craft square metre so I think they're a bargain. Couldn't someone fill the A6 gap in the market?! There are so many beautiful frame designs I'd buy in a heart beat at A6 size.
Have a lovely weekend and stay safe too x

    1. Hi Jacqueline! Eva is a sweetheart isn't she (although she has at this minute sailed past me into the garden with a clean t-shirt from the airer - little minx!) Thank you for your lovely comments and happy Easter to you too xx

  12. I love this card Vicky - great use of the pretty diecut and your little bird-book-flower combo is just perfect for the challenge. The book title is noted (especially as Eva is so intrigued!) I am trying to read more and so lockdown is helping that enormously! I have a big pile of books waiting to be read next on my list is Michelle Obama’s autobiography. Might get the Bill Bryson one for when I need a little light relief!

  16. Really lovely card Vicky - as always. Sadly I can't see any of the other images in your post - they're that grey 'stop sign'. Have tried a different browser which hasn't helped at all. It's happening on other blogs I'm visiting right now - late to the party as ever and trying to catch up on commenting - so I don't think it's just your blog by any means. About 10% of the blogs I've looked at today have the problem. I suspect it's blogger playing up, sigh.

    Hugs
