One of the things I've been wanting to try with my new Up Up and Away set is making a flower with the balloons - well here's one version. Pretty bold huh?! To make it, I stamped the balloon wires image in More Mustard on Daffodil Delight card stock (easy to position using my stamp-a-majig!) and cut it out with paper snips. I threaded a thin piece of card stock through my button before adding it to the flower centre.
In this shot you can see the scoring on one side of the background. The stem lines up with it and the flower overlaps - that's the sort of thing that makes me happy!
I chose the birthday sentiment from the set and stamped it in More Mustard to the right of the stem where it could pretend to be a leaf.
Up Up and Away features hot air balloons but it's easy to turn them into party balloons!
I paper pieced these, sponging the edges with ink for a bit of dimension and adding a 'shine' with glossy card stock.
I thought it would be fun to tie the balloons to the sentiment with a marker. You can just about see the textured card base on this photo (such difficult cards to photograph!) which adds a bit of interest to a very CAS design.
Here's what you'll need to make these cards:
FLOWER CARD
Stamps: Up Up and Away
Ink: More Mustard
Card stock: Whisper White, Daffodil Delight
Other: Daffodil Delight button, 1/8" taffeta ribbon in Certainly Celery, Simply Scored, stamp-a-majig, paper snips
BALLOON CARD
Stamps: Up Up and Away, Happiest Birthday Wishes
Ink: More Mustard, Basic Grey
Card stock: Whisper White smooth and textured, scrap of Daffodil Delight
Other: Scrap of Patterns designer paper, corner rounder, stamp-a-majig

I've been helping my daughter revise for her Biology exam over the last week. Has anyone else noticed that a chicken squawking makes the same pattern as an ECG? BeGACK buck buck buck buck, beGACK buck buck buck buck... Oh dear, the revision is doing nothing for our sanity!
Thanks for popping in today. I'll be back tomorrow with another birthday project. Hope to see you then!
Hugs,

Love the flower very much!
Funnily enough I have never noticed the connection between a squawking chicken and an ECG trace .. .. how unobservant of me LOL!!! I bet Sandra will have done though!!! Tee hee!
I hope you had a good Bank Holiday weekend.
Love Jules xx
As always I'm so inspired when I come here, and yellow is one of my favourite colours. And as for the revision, I can only say, "Get out more!"
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous Vicky... I really must get myself some more SU colours of ink! These yellows are fab!
ReplyDeleteI'm particularly fond of the technique of having a slightly 'smaller than the card' sized self coloured layer on which to build the design.
Thanks so much
Chrissie

ReplyDeleteI would never have thought to use the balloons and turn them into flowers, really pretty. Can't say I've ever thought about graphing a chicken squawk, gave me a chuckle though! Helen (Sydney)

ReplyDeleteThese are brilliant Vicky - I would never have guessed the flower was a balloon unless you'd said! I thought you graph was blood pressure at first - that's what mine was looking like a few weeks back!
