Christmas crackers tutorial with Stampin' Up kraft rolls!

Christmas without crackers? It just couldn't happen! I don't know about you though, but I get a bit fed up with those gifts inside shop bought crackers - no-one ever uses them and they just go straight to landfill. What we're really after are the jokes, the hats and perhaps a yummy treat! So why not make your own?

Don't these mini crackers look cute? They're very quick and easy to put together - here's a tutorial to show you how:

This is what you'll need: A piece of the gorgeous Stampin' Up gift wrap 6" x 3 1/2", three pieces of Crumb Cake card stock 2" x 2 3/4", some gold ribbon and some snail or Fast Fuse. If you want the crackers to go bang when they're pulled, you'll also need some 'snaps' (available from an auction site near you!) and you'll need something to embellish them with.

First use Fast Fuse to fix the card stock into tubes and lay them on the inside of the gift wrap. Add a cracker snap if you're using one. Roll the paper up tightly over the tubes and stick it closed.

Pull the outside two tubes out slightly and, holding onto the gift wrap, push and twist back towards the central tube. This marks where the ribbon should go and starts the cracker shape off.

Pull the tubes back out slightly and tie ribbon around one side.

Insert a hat, a joke and a sweet treat into the other end and tie ribbon around that side too.

Voila! The cracker is now ready for embellishing!

I used some circle punches, one of my favourite sentiments from the Holiday Cheer Project Life stamp set and some gold sequins to decorate my crackers.

Lay the crackers out as part of a fun table setting and get the party started! Woohooo!

  3. BRILLIANT cracker joke Arthur!

These look such fun . . . it's many years since I made my own crackers (with snaps).

But whatever do you mean about useless cracker presents? . . . I'm still using a torch/alarm thing and a serious pair of nail clippers from yonks ago! xxx

(ha,ha) Your royals are visiting us this week. I'm in Texas so they are no where near me, but I do love England. Have a wonderful holiday season! Feliz Navidad, Vicky!
