Hello crafting friends!
It's hard not to get a bit down sometimes at the moment isn't it? I've even been finding it hard to be inspired in the Craft Square Metre this week. But colour has an amazing way of affecting our moods and reaching for the brights has got me going again. Come and see:
Yes, it's time to pop the grass skirt on and hula on over to the birthday party! This card started with the Tropical Frame embossing folder I bought from Hobbycraft last year (gracious, remember going into an actual shop?!!) I picked out the palm leaves with some bright alcohol markers.
I felt some bright flowers would up the tropical ante. I painted a pink wash on some watercolour paper and, once it had completely dried, die cut some flowers with the Sissix Geo Frame die set. The centres of the flowers were stamped with a tiny stamp from Stampin' Up's Thoughtful Blooms.
To bring the elements together, I cut a frame using my Heffy Doodles stitched rectangle dies and added a block sentiment from Uniko's Simply Said Blocks.
CHALLENGES
I used the colours from this fortnight's As You See It challenge, the layout from Freshly Made Sketches and the theme from Seize The Birthday where they've gone Totally Tropical!
AND IN OTHER NEWS
While I was having a think about this challenge, my charming assistant searched for something tropical to inspire me with. She trotted off busily upstairs and, having rootled around in the laundry basket, reappeared with a tropical print dress of mine in her mouth.
Thank you Eva. Very helpful I'm sure!
Hope you're keeping safe and well, enjoying your weekend and perhaps getting a little inky!
Hugs,

You're welcome Diane!
DeleteSorry you have been struggling Vicky and it's no consolation knowing your not alone, so maybe it would cheer you if we do indeed put on those hula skirts and start rocking those hips..........dare we impose that on society I wonder?
ReplyDeleteHope it's some comfort to know your card is a delight with the bright cheery colours and the frame very much appeals to me, don't know why but incorporating one into my projects is always satisfying.
Stay positive and here's some cyber hugs () ()

Love your pretty framed card...you're right, the bright colors do cheer us up! And of course, Evan makes me LAUGH OUT LOUD every time I see her! I don't have a pet, but if I did, I would want an Eva! Thanks for playing with our As You See It color challenge this week!
ReplyDeleteThose colours definitely cheered me up! Aw, so pleased you like the pics of my little pup. I think if every home had an Eva, we'd be well on the way to world peace!
DeleteTropical, came into my mind straight away. Great design and a lovely stamp and super bright and beautiful colours.

It's coming into winter here and a 6 degree frost makes me feel very kindly towards such a warm, tropically inspired card! Perfect use for these colours and I like the way you've framed it. Thank you for joining in with us again at As You See It Challenge.

ReplyDeleteLove a bit of tropical too! Thanks for the fab inspiration Heather :)
DeleteYour card is so pretty and has such a great tropical feel and happy vibe to it. I am struggling big time with the state of things and the only thing that is working right now is card making. So I guess I will just have to embrace it. I had to laugh out loud at Eva appearing with your dress. She was trying to be helpful for sure. Thanks for being with us at Seize the Birthday Vicki. Heart hugs!
ReplyDeleteWho would have thought you could use all those colours and create a tropical card that was so beautifully CAS? Very cleverly done Vicky! It is tough to not get down some days, when every one seems the same. Hopefully the feeling doesn't linger for too long - once this is all over we will definitely get that coffee and I'm looking forward to it! Thanks for sharing with us over at As You See It this week!
ReplyDeleteThis card is so cheery! I love that you coloured the embossed leaves. They are a gorgeous accent on the design. Thank you so much for sharing your card with us on the As You See It Challenge blog!
