Birthday mail for the birthday male

Hello, crafting friends!

I was lucky enough to win a stamp set of my choice from Uniko back in the summer and have only recently found the time to play with it! This is what I made:

For my prize, I chose a beautiful large set called Decorative Doilies - The Hands of Time (which, as a master enabler, I can tell you is currently in the sale at Uniko!) To me, the designs look like those trendy honeycomb decorations and I thought they'd be perfect for birthday cards, especially for those challenging-to-design-for male cards.

To create this one layer card, I used a stencil I made with various circle punches. I sponged ink into each circle, then stamped the doilies over the top in a darker colour ink. The bold sentiment was combined with a 'happy' from Avery Elle's Big Birthday and a 'birthday' from  Uniko's Wild. I finished with some coordinating enamel dots.

I'm playing along again at Allsorts where Tracy has chosen From Boys To Men as her theme, so it's all about male cards; also Seize the Birthday where Jules' choice of topping is Beverages but I've gone for the Anything Goes (as long as it's a birthday card) option; I'm also playing along at Addicted to Stamps and More where the current theme is Birthdays.

Firework season seems to have finished for the season here thank goodness. It doesn't seem to have been quite as manic as usual - we have had years when fireworks have been fizzing and banging every evening for two or three weeks. The great news is that Eva has not been an inconsolable, quivering wreck this year. She has stayed close to my side but has been able to focus on me which is a massive stride forwards.

Here's a photo of my girl enjoying an autumn walk with not a thought in her head about nasty noises, only squirrels and meeting her pals!

Sending hugs,

  1. Your vibrant colours are perfect for a masculine make Vicky,a great layout and brilliant idea to stencil circles behind the doilies, pleased to read that Eva wasn't unduly upset by fireworks

  2. Fabulous card, male ones notoriously difficult, but your colourful design is perfect, and what a lovely contented picture of Eva xxx

  3. What a wonderful colourful card.

Adorable happy go lucky photo of Eva.

    Hugs xxx

  4. Ah Squirrels, now they are tremendous fun to canine's, although not so much so when they dare to pop onto the back patios to steal the birds food. When they do and are sighted it's like trying to tame a pack of Lions.

You have made a really colourful card with your new Uniko stamps, not a make I have ownership of - yet.

  5. What a fun bright happy card Vicky. I must use more geometric styles! Thanks for the inspiration!! Take care! :) Love your beautiful dog!!! :)

  6. A lovely colourful card!
Wish you an awesome week - Hugs

  7. Beautiful CAS stamped design for a guy birthday card, Vicky. Love your photo of Eva enjoying her walk in the woods. TFS Love and Hugs...Nancy

  8. You card is simply glorious! So happy that Eva coped with the fireworks this year. I hated it when we had our cat as he was terrified when he was younger. Jo x

  9. My pups are terrified of fireworks too. I love this design and your color choices. Thanks so much for playing along with us at the Seize the Birthday challenge Vicky!

  10. What a well balanced bday card! Love the hb that is bigger too. ps your dog is amazing :) Thanks for joining in at STB

  11. Love those circles - very retro and cool and so perfect for the sometimes tricky masculine card. Glad Eva survived fireworks night unscathed too.

  12. This is so eye catching Vicky! Your choice of colors is really what did it for me! Thanks for joining us at Seize the Birthday!

  13. What a gorgeous card, Vicky! I love how you created the perfect backgrounds for the stamps with your stenciled circles - a perfect unisex design. I'm pleased to hear that Eva survived the fireworks this year. They are still being heard occasionally in my neck of the woods!
Thanks for sharing with us at ATSM.

  14. Wonderful card, Vicky! I too love this set and I should use it more often. What a fabulous idea to have created stencils to make those circles in the background, they beautifully highlight these stamps. Thanks so much for sharing and for playing along at ATSM.

I'd love to know what you think. Do leave me a comment - it always makes my day! Vicky x
