You're the best!

I've been leafing through my collection of designer paper this morning. I love having lots of this and am quite happy with the fact that I only use a fraction of it on my cards and scrapbooking projects (the rest I use to cover notebooks, make bags and boxes and to wrap gifts.) Today's card features two of my favourite ways to use designer paper: stamping on it and cutting bits out of it to use as embellishments.

I was inspired by Less is More's Sports/Exercise theme and CASual Fridays' challenge to make a card to celebrate an accomplishment including at least one circle. Come and have a look:

I love this horse image from Horse Frontier and it's perfect for all those riders out there - young and not so young! I stamped it onto this subtle paper from the Storytime range and coloured it with a blender pen and markers.

The sentiment is from my favourite A Word For You set and the rosette is cut out of one of the World Spectacular papers. The number 1 image was cut from the same sheet using my 3/4" circle punch.

EDITED TO ADD: I really am a complete banana! Every time LiM has a one layer challenge I seem to miss it and not on purpose I hasten to add - I LIKE one layer cards! Sorry LiM ladies, please remove my entry and I'll go back to the drawing board!

Here's what you'll need to make this card
Stamps: Horse Frontier, A Word For You
Ink: Black stazon, Neutrals markers
Card stock: Very Vanilla
Other: Storytime and World Spectacular designer papers, paper snips, stamp-a-majig

When I was a young girl I immersed myself in books about pony clubs and gymkhanas and yearned to have a pony of my own. This phase passed rapidly after I was allowed to get on a friend's pony... the animal recognised a novice and promptly got rid of me and I moved on (rubbing my sore behind) to ballet, which had prettier costumes!

See you soon,

  5. I love the vintage feel to this card Vicky - I think it's the colours that give that ! So nice to see a card along this theme as the commercially produced ones are usually dire ! You have shown how easy it is to produce a gorgeous simple card from a very limited number of supplies! Just lovely ! Jane x

  7. Hi Vicky what a lovely horse stamp, super card. My horse phase only ended last year and this was my first winter without horses to see to twice a day. Liberating but quite sad too.

  11. I don't think about stamping directly onto DSP but in this instance, I think it looks great. Your anecdote reminds me when I was a horsemad teenager, my mum finally relented on riding lessons to "get it out of my system" - boy, was she wrong! However, it took one of my friends who owned a horse with costs, vets etc., to not want to own one.

  15. Hi Vicky. Lovely card. I like the way the patterned paper behind the horse image really makes the horse stand out. I don't always think of stamping on patterned paper (and I've got plenty of it!!). Hope all is well with you x x
